Had a 13 w/3.55 in my volvo and loved it. New to me 02 Fld has DD 430 and straight 10 w/ 3.70. Going to up the motor next month, and want to mate it to a 13 speed. Just trying to get an idea of what kind of price I'm gonna pay. I see all kinds of 13, any way to tell which would fit? Or should i just use # off my old tranny and get one like that?

I'm not an expert, just throwing some ideas at you.
First, you'll probably want to stick with the same brand. If your 10 speed is an Eaton, which is most common, then you would want an Eaton 13 speed.
2nd, I believe that Eaton 13 speeds, no matter if they're rto or rtxlo or whatever, they all are the same size, which is longer than a 10, due to them having a splitter.
3rd, the number, rto14613, the letters indicate many things, including whether it is an overdrive box, twin counter shaft, etc. You would have to look that up, but my guess is there is one that is most common, and could be considered standard. The numbers indicate the nominal torque it can handle, 1,400 foot pounds, the next number indicates which series it is, ie, version 6, and the last would be how many speeds it has.
According to Detroit, a 430 12.7 has 1,450 foot pounds of torque, so you probably would want one that is 1,600 foot pounds, like 16913. -

Are you buying new transmission? Something to consider is most of your dealers and parts distributors want the same tranny for tranny for example : I have a 9 speed and would like a 18 speed tranny. Truck pro and most places want a 9 speed for a core for there transmission otherwise you will have to pay for not having a core and that is costly. You will probably have to buy new ? Just saying

Make sure it's an RTLO series and like mentioned, 16913 will work. But you will paying an core upgrade when you exchange your 10 speed. And the driveshaft probably will need to be shortened.

There are places that attach a splitter to a 9 speed, so they will take a 9 speed core and then charge the difference between 9 and 13 speed core.
I don't see why they wouldn't do the same with a 10 speed. -

A 9 speed easily upgrades to a 13. A 10 does has no upgrade path.
Your best option is to find a small independent transmission shop. I've done this switch before and found smaller shops were willing to take my good 10 as a core.
One exception. Get under your truck and look at the side of the transmission. If it doesn't have the word metric stamped on it, no one will take it as a core. Its a worthless boat anchor. -
I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. I wasn't suggesting just to add a splitter to a 10 speed. I was trying to say that it had value as a core, even for a different transmission.
