Love the new ride Danny, but I am afraid it won't pull a reefer unit lol, also I don't think you can hook an APU into it, so idling cost is going to kill you in extreme temps.

Here is what I think will happen. We all know a lot of companies have went under. More to follow. I think we have more freight to haul than ever before. It got to a point where there was so many trucks out here competing that when it is all said and done those that are still trucking will have more miles dumped on them. It all boils down to this. The only companies that will survive are the smart and strong ones. Time will tell, but I think the ones that survive will have the ball in their court.

Even if the weaker companies go south, that will still mean a huge pool of unemployed drivers looking for jobs, yes? wont that mean more business for the carriers that are still around, but they can pick and choose with regards to drivers, yes?

I've only been driving for a year now, but I've been around the trucking industry all my life. Rail is taking a lot of freight, but unless you've seen tracks rolling right up to your local stores, there'll be driving jobs. the trucking industry was in a glut, flattening out rates/wages, now with many smaller companies going under, mostly due to poor business practices, it's self-correcting. If you want a job find something else, but if you've always wanted to drive a truck, now is as good a time as any.

As far as economy is concerned, all of us will suffer the same, regardless of how we make a living.

A lot of the smaller companies that went under this year (over 2,900) went under due to the higher fuel costs, not bad business practices. The large companies are the ones that have made it difficult to get decent rates on freight because the large companies have a lower operating cost per truck than the large companies. They get breaks on the fuel rates, and even get tax breaks for training all those rookie drivers.

Please advise me what the tax breaks are that they receive for training all those rookie drivers.

Here are just two I came up with on a quick google search. I knew about some of these back in the 90's when I had my cleaning business.

Florida - Refers to some Federal programs

    ETA

I would doubt they get much benefit from these. Most of the people here would not qualify for the cdl program and insurance requirements.

Even so, a little might slip through and be of some benefit.

I guess the trainer that hubby had lied about that then. Do some research on what kind of breaks, etc that trucking companies get.
