A lever binder snapped shut barehanded is pretty weak.
+-2,000# in this half *** study.....
With a cheater pipe and some effort +-5'000#.
Perfect in my opinion.
I can't think of any reason I'd ever use a pipe on a ratchet binder but in this day and age I'm sure some genius will try a 5 foot bar, strip the threads and then try to sue the everybody possible when he losses some teeth.
And the rest of us with brains will have to buy new ones with "Caution hand tighten only" stamped on the handle. -
Thanks for the advice. Definitely going to try something to get through the "centers". These loads are almost every monday and they truly suck mainly because how they are pre loadedRuthless Thanks this.

You appear to believe it's obvious that any securement tension is unimportant and will not count against the WLL, but I want to see where it says that. I'm not seeing anything referencing how the WLL is calculated, other than a safe percentage of the breaking strength of the device. I'd love to know, rather than feel that it's the correct way to do things.

From what I've seen (and yes I've been somewhere an idiot used a cheater bar with a ratchet binder) you tend to tear out the pockets/securement points on the trailer before the threads on the binder will strip. At least, that's what we saw on our trailers that the guy did it too, even a few that had steel pockets and rails. I was taught that if you can't do the snap binder with your regular bar than you got it too tight and it's time to loosen it by a half link. I wonder if you could actually tear up a trailer using a cheater on a snap binder.cke Thanks this.

I didn't read the link because info from that site or magazine or whatever it is has been posted here before and it contained bad info.

They did the testing in a seated position due to the danger of working with chains and binders. I kid you not that is actually written in the article. -
Think I got my issue figured out. Put a hook on end of a 6ft paint handle to pull chains through the gap. It can also work to belly wrap tarps on the engines we haul and other stuff too. Every idea is patented but don't worry, I won't press infringement charges

You can, I watched an "experienced" fellow while he did just that showing me how to chain a certain unit down.... Couple month later he approached me for a job... Lol

You're working to hard man. Those are straps only loads typically but what ever make you feel safe. I work at that company for about 7 years and we never even had chains on the trucks. Infact I got my CDL through them.
