I just do van. But I go to all kinds of Home Depots, Lowes, etc., and I even have one eye on the ground, but it's very tough, so I think there is a balance. I mean if you have deep pockets, established, same exact customers, stops, I can see it, but for those of us in asphalt combat zone, and multiple stops like I do in cities, there is a happy medium. And now with technology, even the "cheap" tires aren't that cheap, and the quality isn't that bad.
Tire choice, are Michelins worth the extra cost?

Yeah I had a steer blow, drive and trailer with nails. Got very very lucky with steer blowing. Stopped on 95 and rest area, checked my tires and load straps, everything good and 90 miles later it blew. Must picked something up at rest area.

I usually buy higher end stuff for my equipment. I always shop around for price but when running a smaller company I would rather my things last longer then save money up front. When I had a fleet of trucks I would buy cheaper parts and such. But Tires is the one thing you do Not go cheap on. It is the only thing that connects your equipment to the road. And most drivers do not know what it's like to have a blow out without power steering, but once you experience that you never buy cheap tires Ever. I'm not saying you have to buy a certain brand or anything, just buy something that gives you confidence. One cheap tire can cost you big bucks down the line.

Wow. At least no body damage. You lose the rime?
Probably one of the billions of dillweed's we drive around daily with one of those little trailers with an entire home center packed onto it lost a box of nails or one of the workers nailbags after he finished his beer. -
Yeah rim was damaged, was on July 4th and no one was out. Had to have a friend bring me a rim from a freightliner and buy two tires on the road. Got home and put freightliner rim on inside rear and put matching kw rim back on front.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

That's another reason I'm no speed demon. Wrench said my truck would do 94. I wound it up, mostly just let it go up into the low 80's in Utah. But brother when your 78K pounds, doing 75 or 80, and you have that happen, it's over. I drive 60ish 97% of my driving life.x1Heavy Thanks this.

I never had a mich fail. Nor a yoko. *Knock on wood. Ran a drive flat for about 200 miles before the light came on in my head saying feed air to that one. When shes off about 50 rpm and not right where it is supposed to be at cruise and level, I bet you somewhere you got a flat.
I had a set of michelins on my old ford long ago that repaid the initial retail cost many times over by performing when it was time to. It was pretty hard to get them unstuck (I was a top end car not a 1/4 mile one...) and glad they were. Nitrogen gas shocks and nitrogen air filled them out nicely in those days.
In trucking the occasional rig with michelins on the drives for the company that paid for them to put on at a premium over most other tires turned out to be warriors in bad weather when it was not the time to get stuck. Im not current on the latest for heavy trucks. I don't have any problem using them.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -

i run toyo steers, Chinese drives im in the run heavy and abuse my tires crowd. i run heavy and regional and also heavy and short and drive gravel roads. this year has been a lot more highway miles than normal so i was looking to get into a better drive tire, but after discussing with my tire guy some better tire options at the price difference a tire at double the cost was not likely to give me double the miles. so i think ill keep running what iv been running. lighter weights and all highway id probably step up to a better drive tire.
