I'm not out here to make friends, but congeniality and cordiality are still the norm for me. If I see ANY one needing help...even the newbie Swifties that can't navigate from the island to the wide open spaces, I help.
Watched a boarder a few years ago while I was fueling, almost lose ALL his stuff from his rack....he was inside showering and eating....
..walked over to the O/O's truck and asked the yayhoo..".HAY WHY ARE YOU MESSING WITH MY SON'S STUFF? If he's selling it to you, give me the money and I'll give it to him."
Didn't even know the guy, the Pete, nothing. Just shooed off the wanton jerk and carried on with my day. I'm in a Pete, too...how did he know, right? Probably was an old(er) guys truck, but so? Who knew?
That was so long ago, but ingrained. Some of us STILL look out for others out here.

I think that there are no more mentors and worse yet no one wants to be mentored.
I tried to show a guy what to do in traffic and he basically told me that he knew how to do it and didn't need any help from me!
He drove the truck like he was driving his pickup.
Kids today have thin skin. They also have an attitude that they can be in the job for a week, know everything about it and should be the boss!
There are still drivers out there that make me have hope though.

Alot of discriminatory comments in here. American society as a whole has gotten worse since social media became a prominent tool in society. To blame foreigners for other Americans not speaking to each other is some borderline racist rhetoric. From my experience most truck drivers I have encountered are very talkative whether they're white, black, Hispanic, Asian etc. Yes there are some guys out there who are very stand offish but I typically ignore them and keep it moving.

This post is correct as well. Millennials can literally take no criticism and perceive any type help as being attacked. I'm a millennial and my generation sucks at things like human interaction, accountability, work ethic etc it's hard to watch sometimes.

Triple Six touched on it...Brad Paisley once put it to song...

Far as Triple Six being blunt...as Malcolm X once said "I have more respect for a man who lets me know where he stands, even if he's wrong, than the one who comes up like an angel and is nothing but a devil." So count me as a fan, even if I may not always agree...I know where he stands. An I can respect that. To many people flip an flop on their views an so called stances.

I fully agree with what he said about judging one based on being a man, not the color of his skin, nationality, religion, etc.

I watched a kid bench press yesterday. He went up to a 185lb bench. Not bad. Bunch of young guys in the gym with their 'man buns', turkey strutting around, acting like Robocop. No one speaks to each other and except for the loud pop music they play on the intercom, its library quiet. I went up to the kid and commended his bench. I asked him how far he wants to go and he wanted to be able to bench press 315lbs. I then asked him if he were open to constructive criticism.

I had him make a fist, extend his arm straight out and told him to "stop me from forcing his arm down." Of course he couldnt. I then had him bend his arm, elbow close to the body and fist straight up. I them tried to force down his arm and couldnt. What's the difference? Same arm.

    Leverage.

I had him show me how he benches and he stands there, puts his arms in the air like he's in benching form. His elbows are out 90* from the body. I mimic his pose, but I tell him to keep your hands where they are, but turn the elbows down and touch your ribcage. He does it. I ask him a shocking question...

"Do you feel your back muscles suddenly pushing against the back of your arms?"

He has an astonished look on his face, "YES!"

"Your back is the foundation in bench pressing."

I got on the bench, showed him his form with elbows at 90* from the body. I turned the elbows in, and got my feet underneath me so that only my toes were touching the floor. "Try this."

I get off the bench, he gets on and tucks his elbows in. "Now pull your feet in and get up on your toes." He does it.

"Do you feel like a wound up spring ready to fire?"

    "Yeeaaaahhh!"

    "Rock n Roll!"

He starts benching. I yell at him, "Cram that thing through the ceiling! Work! WORK!! WOOOOOORRRRRRRRRKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

When he's done, he slides off the bench and lays in the floor. The yelling got attention and the others guys watching all want to learn proper form.

    (end of part 1)

    (part 2)

Weights are easy. Driving is so much more difficult. Thing about it...everyone on the road believes they are a good driver. They come enroll in a school and then ask, "Hi, I am enrolled in school. What is the best company for me to sign on to?"

The best company will look for the best drivers. If they dont have the best drivers, they cannot be the best company. You're in school, but alreay consider yourself the best. Even when the struggle in school, they blame the truck, blame the instructor. Got news for ya hand: Regardless of the truck, regardless of the instructor, the best driver will understand the technical aspects. Show him how, and it will click in his head. Want to be successful? Be the best driver you can be. Want to work at the best company? Be the best driver you can be.

And then they say, "It's just driving. You make driving sound like rocket science. It's just driving. You can train a monkey to drive."

And trip plan, and time management, and how to watch traffic patterns? Show me this monkey that does these things.
