Something I have not discussed before and I figure I will bring it up just incase you or some new driver isn't informed the process!
DOT Inspections: Did you know if you are inspected by DOT they track all drivers they pulled over and compile it for each company?
The company can request a copy of this monthly. I know your bigger companies are going to request a copy.
Most reports include, truck #, Date, time and any basic information of a warning/fine you may have recieved, if you was put out of service or not and other details but the main discussion I am wanting to point out is above.
Did you know you must submit the original inspection to your company so they can sign off all repairs/issue's was taken care of?
So when you are thinking about keeping that DOT stop away from the company you might think twice because I know our company you will get double trouble for doing that.
I suggest submitting all inspections/tickets to your company to keep from getting in more trouble.![]()

I never thought about not turning one in to my company. Hey the paper work clearly states that the company must sign off and return the form with in what? 10days? I forget how many days, but seems to me they would find out one way or another.

It is required by our company to report any dot insp. immediately via qc and then we have 24hrs to fax a copy of the report to them and then we have to mail the original at the next terminal ect. We also get bonus points for every insp. we pass.
panhandlepat Thanks this. -
The company we worked for last year payed one hundred dollars to the truck for passing a dot inspection. Funny thing is there was a period of about a week and a half that went by that we ended up getting inspected three times. We scanned the inspection in with the logs. Pretty cool getting an extra three hundred bucks on our check. By the way DOT loves those logs from DDL. Peace.

yep we r supposed to fax it before the inspection even happened LOL they want it like pronto. i got my free T-shirt last month thanx to that trooper in BAMA

Each of our terminals gets monthly reports from corporate of DOT inspections their drivers had the previous month . Corporate gets these reports from FMCSA .

Anyone can look at any companys inspections just by entering a DOT number on the safersys website.

LogsRus: I'm not attempting to provoke you but you should define "DOT". Many of my posts here have suggested this because a driver, especially a new driver, gets in the habit of saying "DOT" like everyone else here when those 3 letters can have a very broad meaning thereby confusing a state DOT officer at a scale etc. from a federal DOT officer i.e. the FRA, FMCSA, FAA etc..
I know you understand this and it could save many a question from a new driver when that driver cannot differentiate between federal & state. -
Well I finally work for a company with a bonus plan that includes DOT inspections.Guess what??? I`ve decided I don`t really want a bonus after all.

DOT is Department Of Transportation . It doesn't matter if it is on the state or federal level . They all report the information to the companies and the notification to companies by drivers is the same . The topic is DOT inspections as they apply to drivers .
But then an inspection is not necessarily by DOT . Kentucky Vehicle Enforcement has often made it clear they are not part of KY DOT. But there was a change this year . KVE had been a separate agency . The new governor made them a division of the KY State Police to reduce costs and raise revenue by having more enforcement at scales .
