I've seen airtabs plastered over some trucks and wonder, if they're so effective, why haven't any of these aero cab trucks, with huge teams of engineers behind their design, come from the factory with anything even remotely similar?
Are Airtabs snake oil?

Yes just a bunch of b.s..
Slow down a couple mph you'd prob save more then those stupid things plastered all over will ever save.Sublime, snowman_w900 and Heavyd Thank this. -
I know I have seen trailer with them on the edges. And the back doors stay cleaner. Next time you see one go by and its raining. Watch how the water moves with the air. Its different then without them. Buddy of mine added these to his 40ft Class A motor home. And it went up 7/10's of a MPG on it. He added them to his Kenworth T600. and he swears they allowed it to get 2/10th better than without them. That was pulling the same trailer and running the same loads. As he runs the same route each week. Been running it 5 years, and the air tabs had been on his truck 18 months of that.

Even if it was true i'd take a 2/10th hit just to not look like such a tool.....
But seriously it's all crap. Same old stuff applies to better mpg.
Keep your engine in tune
Progressive shifting
Air pressures in tires
Most importantly , the drivers foot has the most influence. -
Whats 2/10? A gallon saved over 5000 miles?
-
Who cares . LmaoAModelCat, Bakerman, snowman_w900 and 1 other person Thank this.

I heard of people getting them just so they can see better in the mirrors when it's rainig, supposed to help the back splash....

It's science, which, contrary to current public opinion trends, is not B.S. Air tabs are not miracles, but they help. I mean, why "slow down a couple of mph for the same effect," if you can keep driving that 2 mph faster with the same effect? Contrary to expressed opinion here, 2 minutes out of every driving hour tends to add up in a year. I have air tabs. They clean up the chaotic air between the cab and trailer by shaping the wind flow into vortexes and reducing drag. I can see these vortexes flowing off of my cab and around my trailer in conditions of light mist, under street lights, at night. I assume they are doing the same thing for every other mile I drive.
tnpete, runningman0661 and not4hire Thank this. -
