After 20 years in construction, I wanted a change. I made the trip from Houston to Gary and I'm starting in the morning. I may not update daily, but I will try to keep a pretty current thing.
So far, they have been very helpful with getting me up here. Instead of driving up here, they sprung for a ticket for me. In my case, coming from Houston, they hooked me up with a plane ticket over the bus. It was actually cheaper. They have us two to a room in a Best Western, so its been pretty comfortable.
And here we go. Starting with Roehl's CDL training tomorrow

Did they stop their school in Grand Prairie,TX?
-
No, but they said a spot would't be open until the end of September, and I don't like sitting around too much.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Best of luck to ya, brother! Enjoy the process!
BTW, Best Western is my favorite chain. Not the cheapest, but IMO the most consistently comfy rooms. -
I've stayed at a few, I've normally liked them. There's always that odd one that doesn't live up though. When I'm paying, I tend to stay at the Motel 6 a lot. I got in the habit of staying at those while working construction, they can have some good extended stay rooms for a decent price. The only issue with the motel here is there isn't anything in walking distance.

True, but IMO much less so than some other chains. Haven't been in an extended-stay Motel 6 yet, but the few I've seen look good from the outside.
-
Good luck man. I just started weekend classes myself.
-
Yeah, Grand Prairie, TX only starts 3 students every other week and only has 2 instructors. To be honest, that's about all the terminal's big enough for anyway.
I asked to go to Gary for flatbed, but they wouldn't send me, at least partially because Roehl doesn't have much flatbed freight going through my area (I'm from northeast Texas, a couple of hours drive from Grand Prairie). -
Good luck
BTW Gary isnt a town you want to walk around anywaysPuppage Thanks this. -
