I agree this might not be practical on paper, but I think it could be done on Elogs.
It might still be worth it for the load planners to if drivers have the flexibility to get things done. Maybe a shipper took to long causing them be 30 minutes short on log time and they have to park to take a 10 hour break. The the planners or dispatchers have a late delivery that may need to be rescheduled.
This might require more communication so every one is one the same page for planning, but it could save everyone a lot of frustration.

Too many drivers can't properly do their own trip planning with 2 days to work it out. They certainly can't be relied on to give the planner a solid and dependable answer in 20 seconds while on the phone, while the broker is on hold.
QuietStorm, Bean Jr. and Suspect Zero Thank this. -
The 30 is the big one that I would personally love to see gone.
Eveything else I can deal with. -
The simpe fact is that one-size-fits-all set of HOS regs cannot work. We need one set of regs for local drivers, and a completely different set for OTR drivers.
QuietStorm, Dharok and Ryan423 Thank this. -
But there is one for local and one for the rest. Anything else it gets too complicated and to much BS.
Just return it to the pre-2006 changes and things would be better.fargonaz Thanks this. -
The enforcement community felt that was too easy to cheat, but with elogs, that argument should be moot.

I would be happy with 16 hours on duty....can be used for driving and everything else on duty..
8 hours in the bunk and ride again. (I know..dreaming).....lol!QuietStorm Thanks this. -
I am not a 9-5 worker. Why am i being treated as one? Why do i have to take a 30 min break, am i on a "8 hr shift"..? No i am not....why can i onky work 14 hrs??? Why not work until im done?....i dont agree with 2 free hrs for loading...but it takes them 20 mins to actually load ya.
1) Id say get rid of 30 min break bc im not doing a regualr hrly job.
2) get rid of 14hr rule...let me frkin work.....how does that even make sence??? Smh..
3) 34hr restart??? What....why??....is 10hrs a day not enough time off...i could spend 34hrs at HOME...not sweating in my truck..wasting gas...or getting hotel room...dam....
4) 2hr free for loading unloading....come on...if my appointment is 1pm...LOAD ME..... You knew i was comming....($100 hr after first hr.
In conclusion for anyone who made it this far....
11hr drive time..is enough i guess...
No mandatory break bc ill stop, eat, get fuel and piss within the 11hrs anyways.
No 34....let me run make my money and go home a day early.
If the 70 rule can disappear GREAT..if not.. Dont make me wait for the 8th day.. Just give me some dam hours.... 14hrs every day if need be... Fresh time every day...
***14 on ,11 drive..period... Every day..7/24/365...***QuietStorm, Bean Jr. and Oxbow Thank this. -
For every 168 hours (1week) must take at least 70 off duty. Break it up however you like.
RockinChair and Oxbow Thank this. -
14/16 hours a day to do what "WE" know has to be done.I hate waking up in 6 hours and stare out the windshield for 4.
