I have the DoD tech 470+
Amazon.com: DOD TECH DOD-LS470W+ LS Sony Exmor Powered Full HD Dash Camera & GPS Logging with Polarizing Filter: Car Electronics
*it is not a cheap piece of trash cost 210.00 on amazon.
I use a 128gb micro SD card, it it can take up to 512gb but you have to use specific micro SD cards, has 1080, 720 /60fps and others. Has gps, speed, 5, 3, 2, 1 min loop, or .2, .3, .5, .75, 1sec interval still shot, or it will turn on at a G setting like a hard brake. Real good night recording not the garbage green screen crap, but real good quality night picture without streaking or over exposure. Output is .mov (apple quicktime). Has built in microphones which can be disabled.
I leave it plugged into cig lighter, have had zero issues in 4 months of continuous use. I use 720i / 60fps.
    Does not have 4k recording
On screen menu can be somewhat confusing
    Battery will last about 45min
Proprietary suction cup mount - not bad but not adaptable to anything else
    Screen saver mode (blank screen)

I had a Lukas LK-7900 ARA for several years and it works great.

    https://www.amazon.com/LK-7900-ARA-Dashboard-Recorder-16GB/dp/B00QTG49B0/ref=dp_ob_title_auto

    Up sides.....
    • It will accept up to a 128GB card.
    • 1080p video recording.
    • Has GPS position and speed on the video if you wish.
    • Four recording modes: Continuous Recording, Motion Detection Recording (when parked), Event Recording, and Manual (Emergency) Recording
    • Has protected (will not be overwritten) portions of the memory (user adjustable) for G/manual events and motion events while parked.
    • Very good low light performance.
    • Handles temperatures between -4° F - 176° F (many cam's fail to work in high temperatures).
    • Very small.
    • Has digital speed displayed while driving on the unit.
    • Mounts using and adhesive sticker, never have had it fall on its own.
    • Playback when using its software on a PC will show your position on a Google map.

    Down Sides....
    • No video screen on the unit, need to remove the SD card and play video on another device (PC).
    • No WiFi access to the unit.

Try searching the Trucking Electronics, Gadgets and Software Forum section of the forums for other recommendations, that is where this type of information is found on here.

You can use your iPhone as dash cam. There is plenty of info on how to. My $20 dash cam just died so ordered a Nexgadget. Reviews are good, we'll see.

Arrived as promised. China has yet to embrace spell check but I also don't have to decipher Chinese instructions this time around. It's small and seems quality piece. IMG_1151.JPG

I have a DOD LS430, but it's getting a little behind the technology curve and I'll probably replace it before long.

The number one feature I'll be looking for in my next dash camera will be WiFi connectivity so I don't have to take it down and plug it into my computer or remove the SD card when I want to copy a file.

I will also want a large SD card capacity - 128 gigs or better.

Finally, A lot of dash cam buyers pass on 4K video because YouTube doesn't do 4K, and because it quickly eats up file space. But I know from experience that if you have to show a video to an officer the first first thing he'll want to know is can you read the license plate? I'd like to have 4K.

you are right about resolution, the higher, the better for those situations or night recording, if you cant see clearly what you need, then it defeats the purpose. Higher capacity cards makes it easy to take care of that issue. i got me a 128gb one which is good for 60+hours of full 4k recording, more than adecuate
