Any log book theoreticians here?

    @marmonman is probably talking about the mechanic. I would do the same as he said in his post.

    More important than the time (which can be "fudged") are the miles for IFTA. ALL those need to be accounted for.

    Canadian rules, I just turn in a sheet odometer readings at state lines while I'm driving, and instate totals with routes run state and national routes.

    The miles for when the truck goes for service and I'm not bringing it are not recorded by us that I know of. No place on our logs for ododmeter readings.

    ELD, I don't know yet.

    Don't sweat the audit. They're not looking to jam you up. If they'd like to see you logging that stuff they'll say.

    I've had 4 DOT inspections of my electronic logs. They all blazed thru it at lightning speed and moved on to the next inspection items. I can tell you that if they really looked they might have seen a couple things. Like on-duty time being too short to be kosher. But I passed those inspections. Just saying.

    You didn't drive the truck to the shop, you dropped it off at the end of your shift, and got a ride home.

    Harder to do on ELD.......

    You're right, most don't & that's ok unless an auditor gets nosey or if you're involved in an accident & they want to see maintenance reports. A good attorney will then want your logs to match it all up.

    I would show it. I log driving if I take my truck in & I show a little time on line 4 when I do my own maintenance on my truck. I might not quite show all the actual time I spent but enough to make it look good.

    All right! So in order to play it safe, at least for the purpose of the audit, is to mark any truck motion as on duty driving, at least if it can be determined from disclosed documents. I don't really know much about personal conveyance and what rules determine that, but if the truck moved to a shop and you plan to include a document in the maintenance file for that, it is better to mark it rather than not.

    my answer to that question would be they sent a mechanic over to pickup the truck.

    however i would log it unless its going to screw your week up. if your trucks in the shop for a day though it probably wont matter if you log 15 mins. if you drop the truck of at 8 am and you plan to head out at 2 pm with a fresh 14 then i would say they sent someone over to pickup the truck....lol

    the other option to be to show that you parked it at the repair facility when you came in off the road rather than showing that you parked it at your yard.

    Most of my repairs, pms are done in my driveway.
    When I do take it to the mechanic, I log all the drive time. It never messes with my 34 cause I'm usually home for a day or two after my truck is worked on. Just the way I schedule myself.
