As someone that went from Vegas to Seattle all I can say is don't expect the same wages benefits or working conditions.

 

This is part time, but it is $25 an hour Yard Specialist – Weekend Part Time – 16 Hours

 

Check if Estes Express has something in Phoenix. Friend of mine does line haul with Estes Express in Tennessee and makes over $70K. Probably not much difference in pay scale in TN and AZ. He's home every day.

 

Wages in Phoenix are lower than alot of places, but so is the cost of living. There are a ton of companies that do just phoenix to la and back runs. All the big LTL companies are there. Just hop on INDEED or Craigslist and you'll get a really good idea of what's going on there

 

OK. Phoenix for the really good jobs is about getting on a list and waiting your turn. Some of the better ones even want 5 years experience. Many of the teamster shops are closed shops ( friends & family ) and are tough to break into, not all, but like I said it's about the list.

There are guys that pull gas cans / home every night / pull down over six figures. Even starting you could make in the 70's probably. Western Refining is the top of food chain for that, we have many tanker companies.

UPS is teamsters / Fed Ex is not. Both pay in the $30 / hr. range for local LTL. Again the list. Best bet for those companies is hire on inside the warehouse and move up to driver, that's how over half got their jobs. You will do 2 to 4 years in the warehouse. These are career moves.

Central freight had a few openings lately home everynight, like a 400 mile turn & dock work make like $1200 to $1400 week.

Estes a guy told me he makes like $28.
SAIA I heard is mid 20's but you will never see even 1 hour of OT.
ABF is high 20's, they were looking for guys to train out of school, so I have no clue what's going on their.

I was on a list for almost 2 years and the lady called about 2 weeks after I started with Landstar. That was to do JBHunt intermodal, that's like $75K year to start.

I worked for a little guy doing local $18 hour / 60 to 70 hours a week / no OT.
I worked for Schneider home every night distribution took home $800 to $850 week.

Food service is even tough to get into, but you can make high $70K to start, but won't be home all the time.

So there's a big range, and a big wait to get where you want to be.

Ruan, Swift, some other mega's will pay maybe $17 hour for a local guy.
