Written up for safety

The hurricane will be gone tonight but there's the aftermath many won't be going to work tomorrow.What did dispatch say after you refused load?You're the captain of your ship you feel unsafe you refuse.If they fire you seek legal action.

 

You made the right call...not to go! According to The Weather Channel, Mon will have winds steady at 60mph, 100% precipitation, and only 92% humidity......(?????).....does that mean it will be "dry rain"....YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!!!!

The thread title seems a bit misleading. Sounds like he was written up for refusing a load. He refused it due to safety concerns.

 

Last month I got wrote up and suspended for a day. I think they wanted me to stay in the truck at the terminal.
But
I walked next door to the hotel and got a room, walked to the liquor store and got beer and liquor. Next day they did a B service on the truck,
Suspension ended about the time they got done with the truck.( I logged it ALL on Line 4 for spite)
So I off duty bobtailed to the Pilot at Exit 4 with the bar next door and took a reset.

You needed to understand the National Hurricane Center with it's wind maps, Florida DOT closures against high profile vehicles etc into your trip planning.

Im not here to give you a hard time. That load of food is needed NOW today in Florida. They need everything now. (And will get it.)

Part of trucking is you are involved in something bigger than yourself. Keeping these United States running and sometimes people being able to get food and have dinner that you could have delivered today storm or no storm.

Now.... eh... if you wanted to work a storm situation next time now that winter is coming and felt unsafe etc, make sure to be nice to dispatch and ask them to find a team to take your load off. Don't worry your troubles are going to be taken off your 5th wheel. You wont make as much this week, but that is what savings are for.

But sometimes you have to reach down, and go into harms way. Just don't be stupid or willfully giving your company static. Im pretty sure the entire workforce above you in that outfit is stressed already about that stupid Irma. Im so over it.

The one thing with hurricanes for me is 75 or greater winds. Im usually in or against a very strong structure in a geographic hole in a valley, mountain hollar or some such where possible resting the whole truck against a strong building taller than I am. with a taller hill or mountain or forest on the other side. When the storm passes by, I will go around that building's corner and go against that wall and wait some more until its just raining alot then take off. Most of the time the qualcomm is physically blocked so dispatch cannot get through until I get away from that haven after the worst of the storm as passed.

And that's all Im going to say here. I love storms. Bring it. Time to make some money.
