Ok I have to apologize, I just got confirmation Talbert doesn't use grade 50k webs like I thought, they use grade 80k. Confirmed TK does use 80k also. Now I was told Talbert uses 50k web and that was probably 10 years ago and they might have back then, but I did not confirm that because that was then and this is now.
How did I get this information on a late Sunday night you ask?...Well its not just what you know its also who you know. I do not know everything and never will. There is too much for one person to know everything. That is why is pays to know knowledgeable people also. That is why I came on board here because there are some very knowledgeable people on this board. I know some very knowledgeable people that are not on these boards.
Again I apologize about saying Talbert having 50k web when it is actually 80k. If something I know was from way back I need to verify first from now on.

That old saying: better to be thought a fool than open your mouth and remove all doubt

Just teasingheavyhaulershotcaller and snowman_w900 Thank this. -
Ive been doing more research and of course I do not have to object against myself, but you mentioned you have a '95 Talbert. After a couple more phone calls Talbert did use T1 web for a few years in the mid '90's (roughly '94-'97). I did not get an explanation why because the person I asked did not really know why either. So you are correct about your '95 having T1 web, but for the past umpteen years it has been grade 80.
With that being said I made a comment in a previous post where I said Talbert used grade 50 the same time Etnyre hired some upper management in '95 is why they use grade 50 web. Well what I said makes no sense now, because I just corrected myself that during the same time Talbert used T1. -
JD, I never did get any answers from you in a previous post. Can you tell me what the capacity was on the Etnyre trailer and the axle configuration? You say they have a 55ton now and seems ok. Does that mean it was a smaller capacity then that? If it was junk and flimsy can you tell me why the company didn't send it back? Also you say they have a 55ton, so you are telling me they had problems with the one trailer and still bought another Etnyre after that? Doesn't make sense why they would buy another one if they had problems with a pryor trailer. I'm sorry but there are way too many variables into why that trailer was flimsy and a lot of them has to do with the driver and loads that are put on it, not just the manufacturer. I think maybe you are just a Talbert fan and no other trailer is a good trailer except the trailer you own. Of course your buddy HH apparently thinks the same thing about his Knight.
I believe every trailer has its own day that it shines. If I had to pick my favorite trailers I would say the top manufacturers in my opinion would be Aspen, Cozad (coin toss on the two), Trail King, XL, Kalyn/Siebert, Etnyre, Talbert, Fontaine, etc. I know you didn't ask. Just my opinion. If I came across a used Knight and bought it and the first load which would be less then capacity and it seems to be flimsy then do I need to say this is the worst trailer in the world and it is pig iron? No I don't say that, I figure out first what is the reason why it is not acting right. I call the factory and get them to assess the problem. Was it a engineering error? Was it a welding error? (there is a difference). Was it because of the load? Did the previous owner/drivers do something crazy with it? Now a less then capacity load depending on the dimensions can put more stress on a trailer then designed. Example a load with a very high center of gravity makes a trailer sway way more then typical...of course you know that. I am not talking to any dummies here.
I just want people to tell the whole story everytime something goes wrong instead of telling only what he wants to tell which narrows down the decision of the readers what the problem was without them making their own assessment. Now if you said the trailer went back to the factory and they said they screwed up and they wouldn't do anything about it then say it, but I know that didn't happen because if that had happened you would have said it to reinforce your statement.
