I would like to comment on the securement.
I'm quite well known for being a securement jerk.
But the photos don't demonstrate anything I can definatley point to to critique. I don't know you, nor do I know your work, but you yourself stated
The point is, too many unqualified individuals are coming in here and asking accusational questions, when they don't possess the knowledge and understanding to do so. Don't become another one of them.
The 80/50/25 rule is not a myth.
Nor is it just for heavy haulers.
It applies to all cargo, yes even freight loaded inside a van, not placed against the from wall is actually subject to load security laws. The walls are not a means of containment after movement. It is generally disregarded, and is "seen" as open deck rules, but that is only because open deck freight can be "seen". When I used to haul chemical, I had several scales break the seals to inspect "cargo securement", because obviously it carried a higher risk.
Is this correct?

You don't come off as a jerk

I just talked to someone who has many years of hauling multi-axle loads, very informed on the subject. He assures me it is 80 / 50 / 20., not 80/50/25. I think I will take his word on it before I accept yours. This post is for informational / educational purposes only. It was not meant to belittle, mock, embarrass,or humiliate anyone living or non-living.Please do not sue.breadtrk Thanks this.

I have no clue of that which I speak...
It's only >117,000lbs.
And I stand corrected!
However, I think 20% is way too low. A high center of gravity load will easily overtake a meager 20% during a good lean.
The above diagram is also somewhat deceiving, as the 80% of forward momentum force indicated by the arrow actually means 80% of rearward pulling chain to prevent the forward movement. You would be quite surprised how many people can't figure this out.Last edited: Sep 18, 2017
Dye Guardian, SheepDog, wore out and 5 others Thank this. -
How are you educating or informing?
Like I asked- do you drive a truck or pull open deck? -
It's
on a side note that rule applies to breaking strength not WWL.SAR, wore out, cke and 1 other person Thank this. -
I've never seen that actually stated JD, can you show that?
I believe we've discussed this and agreed before that using breaking strength in place of WLL for this is completely insufficient...but that's opinion, not law. -
Of course I can.
1951 ford, Dye Guardian, SAR and 7 others Thank this. -
Thanks JD, you'd best plug your phone in to charge before it dies on you...
