Saving for retirement at a young age.

Here is a mistake I made that people can learn from. Since all I have been doing the past 20 years is rolling around the country, driving a truck &listening to talk radio, I have as much time to devote to what is going on in the world as most analysts do.
So in 2008, I started hearing about Bitcoin on the show Free Talk Live. A digital currency for nerds that mined it like gold on the internet and you couldnt buy anything with them....until a restaurant traded a pizza for 10,000 bitcoin.

So 2010 rolled around and I could have bought as many as I wanted for under a buck and I was busy with my 90 hour a week job and buying them took a little bit of time, and I was helping to care for an elderly parent, so I blew it off and lost out on millions. Recent price of one bitcoin $4000. It hurts a little to know people that got rich on it, but the world did not end. There will be other opportunities. I just have to position my to respond to them.

 

There are a lot of new cryptocurrencys being invented every day, but who really cares?

 

That's no different than gambling. And bitcoin and other digital currencies feel way too shady to me. They make me nervous.

 

If you want to buy 100 shares of a stock of your choice, for example Apple, you go into your account and place an order for 100 shares of Apple and when your order is filled you pay a commission of something like ten dollars.

 

They make me nervous too. When it comes to my money, and especially my retirement money, I don't like too much risk. Most of the time I invest in growth stock mutual funds with a proven track record of around a 10% ROI. They're not sexy or flashy, but they're stable.

 

i wonder what the amish do for retirement lol

 

Let their ten children take care of them.

 

They buy ALOT of property

 

What happens if the kids decide to go outside the confines into the 'larger' world before then?

 

Do not get married, do not have kids, get a vasectomy, live well below your income, save as much as possible, as early as possible and do not accumulate debt...
