My parents were like that.
Guess why I got me a Class A? In the first place? They refused to approve and sign off when I turned 16 for drivers ed. Not at 18 either. I had to literally age out of my highschool before the parents were told in no uncertain terms the state requires this class of me and I WILL be getting a car license that year with or without their approval once I hit 18 and adulthood.
I was not going to say anything about that part until you mentioned it and opened a dusty box in my head buried deep and caused me to remember my own parents. You want a kid to excel? Tell him or her that he is no good at all and will amount to nothing at all in life. Want to destroy a kid? Tell him or her the same thing.
I caused a storm in my family which numbered about 300 total that year I got my Class A. Half said that deaf people do not drive big trucks and half of that say that it's not acceptable.
Most of them have passed on. Bless their hearts... Im still rolling. My experience is not a common one, but it was one of the things that caused me to say eff you everyone, I learn trucking. There is that. Pffth. NYAH.
Sheer gumption and determination to make it good because if I got screw up and failed THAT particular goal, the laughter would have buried me long before now.
Double clutching putting my new career in jeopardy

Real good advice...twat waffle.

I feel its all practice and exposure. I'm in school to and am nervous on the road but I know I will get comfortable with time. Anyways I watch this video when I have bad days at school.

Thank you everyone for all the help. The advice was great! Sadly I was terminated from Roehl on Monday. I freaked out again on a last second slowdown. Went totally blank and forgot what gear I was in. I'm going to attend a community college program in my hometown starting in November that will be slower paced and has an actual lot to practice on (Roehl's Dallas terminal is so small, that it doesn't afford the opportunity to practice on a lot). I'm a little disappointed that I couldn't practice the one hangup I had, but I bear no ill feelings toward Roehl. Again thank you all for the advice, it will help me out in November.
SHOJim and gentleroger Thank this. -
Until your auto breaks down and the loaner is a stick. SMH. Seen it. It's ugly. Shift, that is. Happy Halloween seasonings.

Well,,,I'm sorry a "low-level" outfit like Roehl drops you, I may have to side with Gentleroger now. Perhaps the trainer WAS on to something. Now I don't want to make you feel bad either, but to forget what gear you're in, and the resulting confusion, could very well be a problem. The thing about driving a truck, you HAVE to be on the ball, THE 1ST TIME. You don't get many chances to redo a situation, especially when lives are at stake. You have to be focused on what you're doing, and, not "spacin' out". If you forget what gear you're in, you may forget to check your mirrors, and run over someone. No 2nd chance there. Think about this before you piss any more money away on schools. Ask yourself, in light of these circumstances, is this really for you? Best of luck, quite frankly, I'm beginning to think you don't have what it takes, sorry, and you haven't even got out on the road yet, where the REAL problems start.
