So I made it home after some stern words from me via the qualcomm to my company. I tried all day Monday to get in contact with my dispatcher and no response to messages or voicemail. I was getting unloaded in Atlanta which is about 400 miles from home. I assumed after that load I would be sent home .... nope I get two load assignments sending me into North Carolina and getting me home Friday.
I was upset, angry and heartbroken all in one shot ... I was going to miss my grandmothers funeral .....
I typed up a qualcomm message letting them know my frustrations and how upset I was that I would not be able to make it and that I did not get responses to my messages and voicemails. This was around 1830 Eastern Time so night dispatch was already in and everyone in the office was already gone. Within 10 minutes my phone rings ...... it was the Vice President of the company. Blew me away. He apologized profousily for me not getting a response to my calls and messages. He cancelled the two loads that were assigned to me and told me to safely get myself home.
During the day today my dispatcher called me and he apologized for everything too. He was not in the office yesterday and had no idea what was going on. Apparently whoever was covering his drivers did not check his messages.
In the end I made it home just after 0300 and had to be at the church at 0900 for the services.
I was prepared to miss the services but my family was saying all along that I will be there. They are religious and prayed and thier prayers were answered.
I am going to take a few days off to help clean up the house and sort her belongings then get back on the road early next week.
On a side note I got my first ticket! I was stopped in South Carolina for a bridge law violation. They measured and I was at 42' 5" and in South Carolina can not be more than 41'. I didn't realize I was that spread out ... got a ticket for $100 ... if not paid within 28 days it goes up to $232.

It is good that you made it home for your grandmother's funeral.
It is also good that your company apologized to you for the mishaps that took place.
I TRULY & GENUINELY wish you the best of luck in the future on everything.
God bless you and your family!
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -
Sorry for your loss sir.

They called me today 15,000 sign on plus .43 a mile.....tempting when they basically let you pick your truck.

43cpm? I cant believe that there are drivers who still think that's a good pay... maybe for a rookie out of cdl school.. over here where I drive, at TAK Trucking, 2 years ago they start me off at 50cpm.. now I heard, due to the increase in freight and rates, they pay 52 cents per mile if you have clean record and at least 2 years experience..
-
That's actually up from what they use to pay. It was .38 a mile and now I guess the pay by your experience.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Well Kudos to you, for getting home, man. Very happy it worked out for ya. Sucks on the ticket though; however that's a SMALL concession to make, considering that ya got home.... sorry, however though!
Be safe,
Tom -
43 cpm is decent for a new guy GETTING the miles, man. We all started somewhere. Cool for you at your 50cpm; Mr. Futch is doing rather well living in FL and starting with Schugel. TAK doesn't hire from everywhere, as I'm sure you well know.
Can't ya bounce this driver something positive, man? It's not always about YOU. This week it's about him, getting HOME as promised.
Sorry for hijack, Mr. Futch....just my 2 cents.bigred81, Swedish Chef, hoosiergirl and 2 others Thank this. -
Here Here, so much posted on here is the equivalent of my little thing is bigger than yours! And to no purpose except feedin egos. Driving a truck is hard enough on a person with out ever hearing some encouragement. My first year, 21, no one at the company gave me the emergency phone toll free number so I spent $4 in quarters one morning and they refused the call! Lol Talk about feeling alone!G13Tomcat Thanks this.
