So, I get assigned a preload on the 11th. Live load on the 12th. Drop at the receiver 750 miles away between 0001 and 2359 on the 14th.

Of course I accept it. Even though I have only 13 hours on my 70, I will get 7.5 more back the next day.

Later, I brainfart, and start second guessing myself, and call my dispatcher.

He is irritated at me. Rightly so, for what I am telling him. I can't make on time delivery. I miscalculated.

He contacts the CSR, who says to get it there asap. No repower needed.

I drive hard and end the day in the early AM in the 13th, 350 miles from final. 2.25 hours left on my 70.

I feel like crap. Stomach cramps. Fever. Spend all day on the 13th trying different things to deal with health, sleeping fitfully.

At 2200 on the 13th, I roll to final, and drop it at around 0600. Late.

I spent another day trying to nurse my health back into better shape, since I have only about 2 hours left before recap at midnight.

By the end of that day, last night, I am feeling much better, and send in paperwork for the trip.

I get a couple preloads, and start writing them in my notebook, preparing for the next day.

    Something catches my eye.

The loads are for the 15th. That was yesterday.

    Look at smartphone. Slap forehead.

My 'late load' was on time. I missed the opportunity for a full 34 hour reset and more uninterrupted rest time. I irritated my dispatcher for no reason. I can't blame it on the sickness, because that started after I thought I would be late.

Tomorrow, I call my dispatcher and ask him to forgive me for being an idiot.

Oh, I know I will make mistakes. But I grumbled and worried myself about not getting a 34 for two days before I realized I could have actually taken one.

I despise running on recaps. This mistake is like walking around looking for my glasses while I am actually wearing them.

It takes a really fine person to admit they made mistake, much less one that asked their dispatcher for forgiveness my hat is off to you. You're they type of person that makes the world a good place. Thank You for sharing.

    bamamac and Farmerbob1 Thank this.
