Why, so that you don't get that cop that is having a bad day and is just looking for something to attack. I have been cited and put out of service before for a perfectly legal log, cop just didn't understand anything other than the basics. By the time a supervisor responded the cop had wasted enough of my time I ended up doing a 10 hour break in the scale house lot when I was only 2 hours from home.
Sometimes it is more about the appearance of being wrong more so then actually being wrong.
Need help checking a drivers log book!

Im sorry to hear that.
The 34 is optional, is it not? If they run the recap Im pretty sure they can discard the 34 and get some work done in two days instead of sitting about... even if its only a few hours further down the road. -
Yes it is optional, however most dispatchers plan runs around a driver using the 34 reset, plus the megas don't teach the finer points of logging. Keep it as simple as possible. I ran the first half of my career on recap, no big deal just requires some planning. Today I only drive 3 or 4 days a week so I don't bother filling out the recap on the page or in the log book cover. I figure the DOT officer can add up my hours if he wants to see if I exceeded my 60/7. Funny thing is in almost 10 years of not completing the recap I have never had a officer ask me if I was on 60/7 ot 70/8 so I doubt they evem bother adding up the totals anymore.
Runs are not designed for the thinking driver anymore, with the shorter average length of haul it is almost impossible to run weeks at a time without 34 off.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
Lol hell I've been on recap for going on 5 weeks now and I still have 24 hours on my 70 and get 8:59 back at midnight cst. I don't get paid for resets lol

Never wrote a ticket or fine for form and manner, and it is NEVER going to be out of service for 10 hours.
There is no DOT regulation about having a different log book for each month. You can combine months, no problem.MACK E-6 and Cottonmouth85 Thank this. -
Wow, a real @Scalemaster or are we being catfished here?
-
Nope. He's a very respested poster here. Not as heavy in posting as he used to be. Likely got tired of repeating himself and dealing with idiots that spout ts counter rumor as fact and will not be swayed by something as silly as pointing to the law.
Kinda miss the "What I seen today" thread about stupid violations. Or was that db's thread... Either way was a good one.MACK E-6, gentleroger and Scalemaster Thank this. -
OP- Quit hiding the Drivers info.......None of on here are Serial Killers,Rapists,0r Swindlers.
This is TruckersReport- Only Professional minded people are on here! -
Oh cool. I checked out his profile. He appeared legit.
@Scalemaster say I use KeepTrucking app (no connection to ECM) and transcribe the graph to my paperlogs. Would that be a violation of having "two logbooks"?
I'm just wanting to keep clean records ( & learn logs) , and alerts of potential violations, but also not pay the monthly fee. I have a pre-2000 truck that's why.
