Nope, not legal. I think most cops will choose to overlook that if it's documented properly but there is nothing that allows you to do that.rank Thanks this.
-
whatever the case. i will not park on the shoulder of an interstate for any reason. they can do what they want with me. i'm local so this elog business doesn't affect me anyhow.
-
Hazmat spill in Wythville. I77 and I81. Both sides affected. Everyone that was in a truckstop stayed in the truckstop. The ones that could make it in would shut down early. Soon, every available spot on every onramp and offramp is full. For 30 miles. Stupid company policies.
I have a feeling that those drivers did everything they could under those circumstances.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Speaking of company policy, when I was a company driver, I was sitting on MinotND one winter waiting for dispatch to tell me something. I had some woman call me to tell me that i had been idling for 24hours and that was against company policy. I told her that when the sun was up, the outside temp was 3 degrees.
"Driver, if you are cold, turn the heat on for 15 minutes and close the curtain. In 15 minutes, shut the truck off."
Tell you what, I will just shut the truck off and check into a motel. But tomorrow, we will need a wrecker to tow the truck to a shop.
"Is there something wrong with the truck?"
What part of 3 degrees in daylight did you not understand? If you shut this truck off, it will gel up and will have to be towed to a shop to get unthawed and started.
The absolute worst thing about being a company driver is all of the stupid office people that you have to deal with.cnsper, BigBob410, stayinback and 5 others Thank this. -
If they don't like the trucks sitting there idling for 24+ hours at a truck stop, maybe they should question dispatch as to why they don't have a load on the truck, or the sales dept as to why they don't have any customer freight. Keeping the truck moving seems to me as the best way to avoid the situation.
-
These folks are so stupid. I lived and worked up there, oil fields, the fuel pump hoses would freeze for God's sake, it was that cold. Even the DEF would freeze.
-
And paper logs would have changed this situation how? Oh wait, there would have been no impact. Unless of course a driver chose to falsify their logs.
-
You're right, it still would've been illegal to move the truck, however on paper you can mask the "violation in the name of safety" so that you don't have the company writing you up for HOS violations, a DOT officer in the next 7 days citing you for the violation, or the DOT during the next 6 months if they happen to audit your company.
ELD's make the driver less likely to do the SAFE thing, because the nitwit at the company or wearing the badge won't see anything other than the HOS violation. Doing the unsafe thing keeps you out of trouble, because there is no longer the ability to quietly make that decision in the name of safety.stayinback, Sublime and W9onTime Thank this. -
After working and safety for over a year as the nitwit on the other side of the computer. I can also say that statement is full of crap. The only reason people are opposed to ELDs is it is more difficult falsify their logs.
Do you want to know why the Mandate took place? Because people making excuses for going over there hours chronically has caused it. People using every stupid little excuse to not follow the regulations has driven us to this point. I personally look forward to all he's crying whiny little b****** getting off of the road when the Mandate takes effect. Still leave more freight for those of us who actually know how to do our jobs and not lie about it.rbrtwbstr Thanks this.
