I don't currently have any but I have cut off a little of the barrel and threads of a ratchet binder for tight spots. It doesn't have a lot of uses but it does work in a pinch.
Interesting concept...

bigguns we're both from Georgia so we both anything brought to work with, shoot with or fish with is a "new toy" till we drop it a few times.
bigguns and spyder7723 Thank this. -
I used a smooth jaw pipe wrench for that.BigBob410 Thanks this.

Most of the ratchet binders we have have a large enough opening that I can use my winch bar on them to keep them from twisting.BigBob410 Thanks this.

You use 1/2" binders, or bigger?
-
Not trying to sound like a jerk but I use ratchets dozens of times everyday and I never have a problem with the chain twisting instead of the binder. If you keep them lubed up that's not a problem.
-
No. 3/8ths. But some of them have a bigger spot to stick the bar through than others.

Even with a long pull on something tall like a 39-4100 Manitowoc counterweight on an RGN or double drop?
-
I agree. But the way things go where I'm at I rarely hold onto securement for more than a few loads, so I don't get much say in how well they have been kept clean and lubed.
-
Yep, throw a chain over a conex box or a trench box with long spreaders and it's no problem. I can't remember the last time I had the chain twist but when I did it was dry. I can't stand dry binders.
