Spoken like a good politician. This idea is what has given us Obamacare and a congress that will fight tooth and nail NOT to provide meaningful tax relief to workers [allowing the taxpayer to have more say in how they live]

You do not have enough information to make the call. We drive more then 1 mile at a time. How many miles annually are the trucks running. Getting there fast and sitting doesn't pay more then getting there and moving on. If both drivers get 2500 miles a week then the higher paying rate is best.
In the real world, my truck goes 75. I pick up extra loads as many times I get a two day load that I can run in one day. Therefore speed makes money. It is also dangerous and hard on the equipment.
I came over a small rise on I30 in Texas. Going 75. Traffic was stopped. No way to shut it down in time. I took the median. No damage to the truck or anyone else. Highway patrol told me I did really good. He witnessed everything. But the wrecker call was $1500.
I drive the speed to make the most money. Sometimes that is 55. -
if this is what smokey has for trucks my decision is simple

Forget about talks about the speed of the truck...
SPD is at the top of the food chain for specialized carriers. A Game company driver there will make over a hundred grand a year. If they had 50 mph trucks, I would join them if I were a company driver. If you haven't already, chat with @kylefitzy.
Luck in battle.Dave_in_AZ, JReding, Oxbow and 4 others Thank this. -
If my truck went 5mph faster, it would just mean I got to my appointment a few minutes sooner. I do mostly live loads and unloads.... but I could pass more. No more money.....

50 mph or 100 mph, there's always going to be a case to be made "if I could have driven 5 mph faster on this load, I'd have made the appointment".
Personally, I've often noted a direct correlation between the speed of the truck and the time spent in truck stops and on the shoulder.
But I guess there's something to be said for being able to pull to the shoulder 6 times a day to pee and get more Pepsi and Fritos, and still getting in the gate 1 minute ahead of the 63 mph truck.
Oxbow and cjb logistics Thank this. -
Not necessarily , depends on how the truck is specked. If it's specked to run 72 it will get better fuel mileage at 72 than 64Dave_in_AZ and EZ Money Thank this.

No offense but that's bull crap promoted by bull haulers. Laws of Physics and energy contradicts this, regardless of gearing. Resistance (drag load) is a constant.MarkH129 Thanks this.

Illinois is 70 for everyone now except in the Chicagoland areaCanned Spam Thanks this.
