Wrong on both accounts it would seem. One by no laws against them with the exception possibly being WA. Two I have been backing up for over 35 years and have never used one. So why in the 77el should they be mandatory for backing up?Lepton1 Thanks this.

The knob makes it easier to do this. It allows me to spin the wheel faster and gives me more precise control as I'm backing. Without it, pull ups are more common. With it, pull ups become less frequent.

Then again I can accomplish the same without a knob. Palm on top of the steering wheel can spin it just fine.crb Thanks this.

Really, if I did city pedal it might come in handy. I've recently had 2 different shoulder surgeries and had pain when backing. I drive a variety of trucks. Sleepers, day cabs, Volvo, Freightliners, and the occasional Prostar. Sometimes the tension on the wheel is more than others.
What I do know if that wheel gets to spinning rapidly it's gonna tear up something. Maybe break something. -
I remember as a teenager, hearing from my dad that these suicide knobs were illegal, the law had just passed. Personally, I feel it is a person choice, or should be. If I use a suicide knob, who is at risk of getting hurt? Me, right? Only me, and no one else. Just like seat belts. Stupid law's...

You an owner operator? If not worker comp from your employer pays for the damage. And anyone in this day and age that thinks seat belts are stupid is just ignoring the facts. I've been in a rollover accident in a car that was never equipped with seat belts. 2 broken ribs, compression fracture of T7-T8, broken collar bone, partially severed extensor tendon on my right hand. If I would have landed differently I would have either had a broken neck with the possibility of being paralyzed, or dead.
Story was back when I was at Swift if they saw you with a knob? You were fired. Never saw it happen. -
everyone different, they should not be mandatory! but they should not be illegal either! I had one and was sighted for it in WA. I don't need it, but I do like them, I have met others who have tried them and don't like them, but because of your limitations doesn't mean everyone else should have to have one!rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
