To the op, I am wondering if you expect to make the same margin with a driver as you do as an O/O?

Let’s look at this from another perspective. The potential drivers perspective.

Hire on to a fellas growing trucking business with the potential of no insurance or paid time off, etc.. Not knowing if he owes a ton of debt on the truck your driving and whether he will be there or if the truck will get repoed tomorrow. All that sort of stuff.

Scary unless you know the guy has been around awhile.

That book has some flaws in it, but it also doesn't address the issues with fleet ownership.

See what many of you miss is you think owning another truck nets you the same amount of money that a single truck driven by you nets, it just doesn't work that way. AND many owners who think that way turn out to be the cheapest b******s around, and we don't need any more of them.

$850/wk? Is that for a full time position? That might buy you a guy out of driving school if your willing to take that chance. This isn't 1992. With the money you think you'll save paying a lower wage you will more than likely spend on insurance for someone with little to no experience or a questionable record and work history.

It seems the consensus here is that $1,000 per week is a minimum pay level, but that depends on the operation and the region of the country. Here, and in our type of operation, $1,000 a week plus some decent benefits gets you drivers that are well above average. Of course, it's 4 days out, and the rest of the week off, most holidays off, and that makes a big difference as well.

My point is that without knowing the type of operation and the region of the country, throwing out minimum pay figures is not particularly helpful.
