I'm not governed. Cruise 62 to 65. I can't imagine being governed, and not being able to get away from the tard mega driver or mega pack.

I think speed of truck is the last reason in the whole world to choose a company.

    Washington is only 60 anyway.

I'd look at the overall operations. And like you said, can you be at the house more.

I think you're going to find the best coast running far different than the least coast. It can tough sledding for 3 or 4 months in the winter.

But I don't do much above 65. That's 1500 rpm for me. 3.58 ratio. The fuel, the wear and tear on the truck, do all add up. Once you start running over 70, the wear on your tires from the friction is exponentially increased.

The bottom line for me is also which gals in the office will show you some leg.

I think it's when you sit for a long time then when you get up to walk the blood flow kicks in better and a small fatty tissue which can be anywhere in your body/blood stream loosens up and makes it's way to your heart usually resulting in a heart attack. Truck drivers get them more than the average population.

The more horse you have on hand above the loading at the drives required by the road the less work you will demand to maintain a speed when the grades come up. You will burn less fuel per hour.

Any time you change gears you are injecting a shot of fuel into the engine. I have tried to wonder how many times you can rev a engine on 300 gallons of fuel.... /rhetorical... but with the FLD 120 in my avatar and my famous 1600 mile vagabond fuel hunt on 320 gallons that pretty much were dry, I had to have a egg between my foot and fuel pedal. The less revving and less "Work" imposed on it hopefully conserved a little bit to get that much further. It was a 500 horse plus detroit at 72 limit and did well that day.

I had a older short nose freightliner with a 350 cat on a 145 gal fuel tank and I was fueling TWICE a day at times. Even a pull out of Vermont on that 3 mile almost two hour pull at 30 gallons an hour drained 60 plus gallons at less than walking speed. Does that make sense? It costs a bunch of fuel to lift a weight up and over just like it costs a plane to come off the ground and climb to cruise in fuel. That poor little cat I stood on the fuel pedal all the time. And the company griped about the fueling. Toss a #### big cat in there and give me two tanks to work with and you will see me fuel every third day... But they never did that.

Anyhow I can think even back further into the 60's engines with 200 something horse against 120K or whatever gross with seacans. It's ridicilous. I have discovered that in certain situations like the long slow pull upgrade on 81 northbound she will give you maybe 43 and still two or three gears left to go before top and there isnt enough power for all the love and money in the world to whip the runt up and over any faster. It's disgusting. Especially when the other drivers with the big 450 cats breezed by teasing me on the radio making time.

Make it a nice big one and fast. At least if I am lucky the pressure goes to zero at the cerebal cortex (Brain stem that controls breathing, heart clock timing and other reflexes not voluntary) and maybe after about 20 seconds I'll be seeing the lord opening that big book to see if I am written in it. None of that flopping around, wrecking or screaming.

Huh? Fuel economy isn’t a big deal, I drive for a fuel company. We have more bad fuel in a trailer than I could burn in 10 years going a few mph over 65.

Why would I run below the speed limit if I don’t have to? What sense does that make?

I’d rather get out and stretch my legs when I want and get the same work done as the guy who does 62 in a urine soaked cab because he has to piss in a bottle because he can’t stop.

I’m not passing anyone because I’m racing them. I’m passing them because they are slower than me.

Chill out dude, don’t worry about my fuel.

I’ll qualify this by saying that most of the time my schedule isn’t that hectic and I’ll run 65 mph. Days where I need to put away 700 miles though? I’ll put the hammer down, #### the fuel mileage, full speed ahead.
