I dont think you are correct. The mile marker would be the same either way....zero on the 401 starts at Windsor. But I wont insist that I am right, since I could be mistaken.

Well we got to the Ambassador bridge about 2000 last night. I pulled up and had all my paper work in order. We use the PAPS and the PARS to cross so we were pre-cleared. She asked if we have ever been to Canada befor and I told her not since befor 9/11. She said she was gonna send us to emagration. Then she asked all the normal questions about what we had to declare and if we had any knifes. Well I keep one in the truck just to spread peanut butter and open those hard plastic packages you get when you buy something. I showed it to her and she asked how does it open. Well see you push this little button here. OMG I have a switch blade. Needless to say its still there. At emagration they had not one but two of them in our truck searching for contraband. Good thing I drank all my beer befor I got to the border....<just kidding> Then another 20 min of background checks and B.S then we were off. Up the 401. Then my wife drove and I went to sleep. I woke up in a truck stop with snow everywhere. She said cars were spinning around everywhere in the storm and we had less than 10000 lbs. on. I finished up the run to Kitchener this morn. Now we got a round trip to WI and back to Kitchener. I decided that 75 being closed is a bit irritating. All in all it wasnt that bad of an experience. Looks like we better get used to it cause thats what this company does. Need all the miles available right now. Thanks for all the info.

I keep my knife in the truck and tell them I have them. It's usually on my jeans. The one I don't show them sits in the cubby over the steering wheel, which technically violates the law since it's over 6 inches with the blade extended. They've searched, it's not hidden, got by just fine. Never lie to them, but don't give them any more information than they need.

Countrycruisers , do you have passports yet ? They are not required (a birth certificate will do ) but they ease entry a little bit . My carrier reimbursed me for the cost of mine . I have never been delayed by Canadian Customs . U.S. Customs did a quick search of my cab one time when I crossed at 3 a.m. and there was no lines .

Passport or FAST card are definitely recommended...most companies (up here at least) will pay for your FAST card.
As for weapons (knives, etc) there is a sign going into Canada which states you MUST declare all weapons at the border. If you have guns in your truck make sure you tell them....nothing worse than being selected for a 'random search' and having something like that found.
In general, handguns are not permitted in Canada, nor ar switchblades or 'gravity' knives....flexible weapons are also illegal here.
Personally, I have always found my Buck 4" hunter, a big MagLite flashlight, and my tire bat to be more than sufficient.
Get used to the snow....it's only beginning

We will be getting our passport when we go in and have a sec. to take care of it. I dont think Celadon will reimberse us but I dont care about that. I called to ask about crossing back over at Sarnia and the night dispatch up there said thier getting hammered with about a foot of snow. So we will be crossing at Detroit again. Im at the pilot right now waiting for Canadian dispatch to call the cust and get a CCI with a dollar amount for the load and fax it to the broker so they can get the load cleared. What buggs me is that Celadon runs this round trip every day. Why wasnt the proper paper work with the packing slip last night when I dropped and hooked? See this is why alot of americans dont want to mess with going to Canada. Now I have to sit and wait for someone to do thier job that was suposed to be done yesterday. This run was a thousand miles round trip. Its going to end up taking a day and a half. Not a good deal on a regular basis thats for sure. Only 48 hundred miles for the week this week. We're going to have to do better than that. This happens next week and I will have to have a conversation with my fm.

We are using our BC and have been crossing at a couple of places frequently.....they ask when the last time we crossed and the last time e crossed over at Alexandria Bay it was a breeze getting back into the US.....going into CA no problem.........BC must be originals from the state no photocopies! considered a photo copy of marriage lisc because the intelligent life at the US customs agent asked my connection with the husband...I guess same last name and address (and my name on the door) was not near enough of a clue since the person who filed out my BC did not have the forthought to go ahead and put my future married name on it!

If Livingston is your broker make sure the papers cleared before you cross. They have a bad habit of once in a while going retarded and will tell you everything is OK and you can cross then you get to the Canadian side and are informed that the PARS didn't clear yet. Then you are sent back to the US, pay the bridge tolls twice for nothing. Had it happen not once but twice with Livingston.
-
Where do you enter Canada ? I cross at Sarnia and have had a failed PARS 4 or 5 times . They let me park the truck and go in to Livingston's office .
-
Back in July, I called and the PARS was okay and they said to come on through. Got there and had to park and kill and hour because there was no record.
