What I was told the clutch went out and went to shop. Was original clutch, transmission cooler was bypassed due to internal leak which led to transmission failure. So new clutch and transmission was replaced

What's the wheelbase...265 or 270? 3.70 rears? If youre wanting to build a nice looking rig, that midroof flattop W9 is a very nice start.
bigguns, Broke Down 69 and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this. -
I have a '99 W900L with an N14 and 13 speed. I bought it for a lot less, but it has about twice the miles on it as that one.
We bypassed the trans cooler as soon as I bought it, when we put the PTO on it. I run close to gross on every load in the Texas/Oklahoma summers and it rarely gets much over 200 degrees. I don't know what you'd have to do to get it hot enough to tear the transmission up.
As far as the heat/air not blowing hard, the air box on the firewall is bad about leaking on these trucks. Might even be a little rusty. Open the hood and run the blower with the engine off and see if you can hear or feel air leaking out of that air box. I sealed mine up with regular old silicone caulk and haven't had anymore trouble.
That N14 is a dang good engine. Solid and reliable. Super easy to work on.
I don't know if I'd give $38,000 for it though. It would have to be a dang nice truck. -
Op
For that price, it opens the door for a hell of a lot better trucks.... -
I have a 99 W9 ... and I wouldnt sell it for 40k. As long as it is not rotted out and has been maintained ... you could do a lot worse. That truck will cost you less in the long run than any post emmisions truck. And will hold together better than any freightliner / international / volvo.
Chrome gets expensive though ....
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
1999 W900 N14 for 38k?????.... wow, just wow!
You know what they say.... a fool and his money...
I picked up a 1999 Volvo d12 with 690K ORIGINAL MILES ( YEAH, I know, it's not N14, but whatever) for $12K. It had new turbo, new clutch, and 100% rebuilt transmission, overhead, injectors etc. 1-owner, and every little documentation you can think of.
There is NO WAY, I would pay over $20K for a 1999 truck, no matter how much chrome is on it.
Think about it - It's an 18yr old truck, next year, it's 19yr old....tic! toc! tic!ibcalm19 Thanks this. -
sorta,Kinda,.......I see what your trying to say.
When it comes to W-900's and 359's-379's The Maturity process DIFFERS than your typical disposable Freightliner/Volvo........
Value Will only go so low......but Will always be Thousands above scrap value on those particular models I described...
For Example- Kinda like a Muscle Car- value will only go so Low-Even in poor shape-Will always be above scrap value because Of demand
Yes,Buying a 1999 (or older) W-9 or pete is a fairly smart investment assuming you have the desire to stay on it over timeDiesel Dave, mslashbar, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Hate to think they didn't do the overhead after replacing Cam follower gaskets lol. Proper gaskets installed?blairandgretchen Thanks this.

JimmyWells, Broke Down 69, nax and 1 other person Thank this. -
A clean 1999. Volvo, freigthliner , international etc, , is around 25k, i think 38k is fair for that peterbilt....remember 99 are more expensive than 2009 because logs, (trucks in good shape)
