I was steady running at 65 mph for an hour then oil pressure shot to 0psi immediately and the oil pressure light was on it did not respond to any throttle and shut down when I came to a stop. (I think the trucks are designed not to respond to throttle if oil pressure is below a certain psi)
It did start back up with a lower than normal oil pressure with oil pressure light on. I think it went up to 30psi when I gave it throttle.
There is an oil leak towards front of engine and maybe another in rear.
Seems like I had almost exact same scenario with a ford diesel truck and it ended up being just the oil pressure sensor needed to be replaced.
The truck engine sounds okay and has plenty of oil maybe too much oil.
At 65 mph strong then 0 oil pressure immediately

What is the motor under the hood, and model of truck? I hope you did not drive it until the issue was properly diagnosed. Normally a sensor...
-
Yes, what engine ? Year ?
Mdflann915 Thanks this. -
If it's a Volvo motor.....Oil pressure sensor is on the drivers side of the engine, near the steering shaft and to the right of the ecm. There are two sensors with twist style caps on them directly above one another, the top one is the oil pressure sensor. If you unplug it the truck will run all day but the gauge shows zero pressure. If it's not that, then it's the oil pressure switch by the three filter housing on the passenger side. Spray some cleaner on it and it will clear it up until you can replace it. It has the same style twist cap.
Mdflann915 and nax Thank this. -
Thanks for the reply, I replaced the Oil pressure sensor/tempature sensor and this did fix the problem and was able to keep it moving same day without roadside service thank God... Althought 750 miles later now the truck will randomply start running choppy/rough with low power... I will shut the truck down let it sit for 10 minutes start it back up and the problem is cleared and the truck is running normal again but then 20 miles later it will start running choppy/rough again, it will still drive full 65 mph but with an empty trailer (in the choppy/rough state), probably wouldn't be able to haul a 40,000lb load running choppy/rough...
I see two active codes
1) active code: SID21 Engine Position Sensor
2) active code: FMI3 voltage above normal or shorted to higher voltage
If you would provide any imput on this thanks
I'll probably copy and paste this response to the other responders, thank you for your imput, sorry for late response I never did see any email notification from truckers report and don't know how to get notified of responses. -
Thank you for your response!

I was almost sure it was the sensor, surely the oil pressure wasn't actually 0psi, I did drive it 15 miles down the road and was able to get to a truck stop buy an adjustable wrench and replace it with the part which was delivered to me.

Replace the engine position sensor?
-
I agree, that would be my first guess, maybe someone could give a more certain answer
