I hot glue anything that’s attached to my dash, CB included. It doesn’t damage the plastic and holds pretty good.

I will try some of that Scotch hook and loop to keep the door closed on my fridge. The stuff they sell in the fabric section of Walmart doesn’t have enough holding power when a gallon jug of tea wants to push the door open.

I wouldn't use it in anything you open frequently. We use it for our prepass transponder and its hard to remove.

I just shake my head and smile when I pass all these trucks with all the toys stuck all over the dash and windshield. And wonder how I survived 40 years of trucking??:):)

Back then some local with a base station was your GPS. You didn't even need to spend the dime to get directions to where you were going once you hit town.

They would give you the road report, police report, construction report and weather. Those were the days.

Dont hate on some luxuries. You can get by without them, sure, but they definitely help. Seeing traffic situation in advance is nice, specially if you can reroute around them. If youre driving through tornado alley, noaa radar app sure is a nice feature, or any major storm for that matter.

CBs work just as well and some of them have NOAA.

This is what is happening to the modern truck drivers. Do you know what happens when the truck becomes smarter than the driver? You no longer need the driver. Drivers will tell you that you'll always need the driver. Something might happen to the truck to the point that it can't navigate. If the truck can't navigate, neither will the driver. He won't know the basics to get where it needs to go.

It's going to be interesting to see the state of mind of the modern truck driver in 25 years. This article says a lot. I challenge anyone that relies on their GPS to go old school. Next time you go somewhere you have never been, use a map. Call for directions. Do not use any technology. See if you can do it. See if you can survive without it.

That's not much of a challenge. I do that on a regular basis and love finding new routes The gps would never take because it's not the freeway system! The real challenge is does the customer know how to give you directions to their place. Most now days they just tell you to use Google maps.

I was going to add that because most people would think it's a crank call. I was also going to ad that you could only use your phone to call the customers because you won't be able to find a payphone.

    True story.
THE BLACKOUT OF 2003: COMMUNICATIONS; When Wireless Phones Failed Because of Heavy Use, Callers Turned to Land Lines

Here is another reason to keep a landline. Did you know that landline phone lines carry electricity? It is just enough to ring the bell. It's also just enough to slow charge a cell phone.
