Have a Cat motor in a Pete 379 both my oil temp and water temp gauges are dropping down and comes back up, sometimes they drop all the way done past 100 and I’ve noticed that my fan stays running. I’ve took all battery cables off and cleaned them and checked ecm cables and cleaned them! Anyone know what else I could do?

You need to check wiring to and the coolant temp sensor itself. The oil temp is likely calculated from coolant temp and may not have a sensor of its own. The connector to the sensor is a real bugger to get to and may be not secured or locked on causing a loose connection. Do you have cel on when it occurs?

Oil temp sensor is on drivers side of the oil pan.

You can't calculate oil temp from coolant temp. That makes no sense

If it were me I'd be looking for a grounding issue.

Trust me you can because Cat does it through the ecm. Depends on the year and the engine which was not provided in this case. You are correct that most older engines do have oil temp sensor in the pan. Coincidence that both gauges quit working together, I think not.
