It sounds like you did what you were told, the way you were told.
This will remain a mystery as to why one wheel caught fire and the others did not. It would almost have to be one of the options I stated in the earlier post.
They probably figured they messed up, and wanted to get rid of you before you asked to be reimbursed for your belongings.
The only thing that might could be done different is to drop the trailer as soon as you noticed the fire extinguisher was not going to work.
This is easy to say from my home, as I was not there, and who knows what anyone will do in a panic situation like that. You have learned from this, as you will every problem that crops up in trucking.
You need clarification as to what they meant when they put misconduct on your DAC, and try to get it removed. I just hope this does not follow you around from now on.
As for trucks passing inspection, I have seen many trucks I would not move after they had been inspected by "mechanics". My interperation of OK is a lot higher than others, as I have worked on trucks almost as much as I have driven them.
Good Luck.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
Any Chance?
