I just got in a 2016 Prostar, tried to hook up my CB radio but every time I connect it the fuse in the fuse box pops not the inline. There are two wires, green and white. I determined with my tester that the green is hot and the white is not. I don’t even get a chance to turn the thing on before it blows. I’ve tried this with and without antennas. Don’t understand this. Thanks!

Measure ohms from power lead to ground lead. If zero ohms, radio is shorted.

Thanks for reply but I don’t have an ohms meter. Thought about doing a quick connect to battery just to see if it is a bad radio? Any thoughts on that? Thanks again.

Are you using correct size fuse? I tried a 3 amp in my radio,,blew right away. Requires 10amp

Well it has an inline fuse that uses the old glass fuses, guess I could replace it with the mini fuse?

What radio are you trying to use? If it's a larger export radio or a radio with an rfx kit chances are the fuse/wiring in the truck isn't sufficient to handle the amp load.

He said it pops the fuse as soon as he connects the radio to power. No matter how big a radio is, the receive only draws a small amount of power. Now, if it were popping the fuse when he keys up, that's a different story. But this radio has a problem somewhere. He needs to use a multimeter and ohm the pos/neg as suggested. A cheap multimeter can be had for less than $10.
