Hey! I'm Virginia from Huntsville, AL and I've been snooping around the site a bit so I decided to sign up. I'm looking to start cdl school in the near future, driving a truck is something I've wanted to do since I was a kid. So we'll see what happens :D
BUT. I'm short, as in 5'1 which kinda worries me. I don't know if I'll be able to reach the clutch. Any other short lady truckers out there? I prefer to find a flatbed company so I would probably have a lot of vertically challenged issues at the beginning lol. Any help or tips are appreciated!

How strong are you? Can you lift a rolled up tarp that weighs 75 or 100 lbs. off the ground and put it on the trailer?
Huntsville is a good area and many trucking companies of all types will hire you at graduation.
Melton Truck Lines is a good flatbed company.

Tidewater Transit (tanker) hires in your area and you'll make a lot more money there.

75lbs isn't an issue. 100lbs would be. I plan to work out to focus on cardio because of things like that. I realize flatbed work isn't quite the easiest.

I just saw your pics.....I was thinking of either Melton or TMC. I know TMC has a terminal nearby in TN, but I didn't know Melton did too. I'll definitely check them out too.

You're in the hiring area for Melton. They're a coast to coast outfit, so you'll probably see all the lower 48 states. Orientation is in Tulsa,Oklahoma.

Here's some that hire new cdl grads & can consider them if you change your mind on flatbed.
    Danny Herman Trucking
    Freymiller
    Magnum Ltd.
    Titan Transfer
    Abilene Motor Express
    Tyson Foods
    Navajo Express

Danny Herman Trucking stays below I-40 and runs coast to coast.

During training tmc will make you stand on the ground flat footed by a trailer and tell you to get on the trailer deck. That might be an issue with your height. You will also have to go to des moines iowa for 2 wk training. I think back when i did it there was about 50 drivers there trying to get a job, and only 10 or so of us made it to very end of the 2 wk period. They sent one guy home for hitting a train on the simulator lol.

Sweet. I want to try to find a regional job, which I hope won't be too much to ask for at the beginning.
