Powdery Snow Creates Windshield Film

Stock up on the blades. Carry at least 2 sets AT ALL TIMES!!!!!

 

Always, Always , run a cold windshield. The snow won't stick. And if it's raining or sleeting and then starts icing up on your windshield you better watch your ###. Because your window is telling you the road surface is starting to ice up too. Not always the case but very good chance. Pay attention to details. Details, details.

 

most trucks tend to leak heat to windshield even when defrost is off. I always have pieces of carpet to toss on defrost vents so I can keep windshield stone cold. You can toss your coat on dash to cover vents.

 

There's been some good advise given here. Not to disagree. Just forget what all I've read. I'll give my experience to hopefully help.

When it's a warm wet snow. It's going to try to ice up on the window no matter what. You have to run the defrosters. Hopefully they work good. If not, you have to pull over to break up the build up. Give the defrosters time to work. .. At the same time, you'll often have water from the road hitting the windshield. You need good windshield washers and fluid. I like the idea of using rubbing alcohol. Can get it easily at truck stops...they call it air line antifreeze. That's all that is... rubbing alcohol.

When it's colder. In my experience. I agree with the camp that says; Definitely try to let the windshield go cold. That's the best, easiest way.

 

I agree on running the defroster. The Wx scenarios this time of year where keeping a "cold windshield" actually helps, are far and few between. This time of year you have a lot snow that occurs in the upper 20's. Getting a windshield to remain cold enough to "reject" snow that is already "wet" is next to impossible. So, the next best option is to quickly thaw it and hope your wiper blades don't freeze over too bad.

Not to mention, if you get a quick transition to freezing drizzle, you're going to wish you had a warm windshield.

and clean the crap off the dash,so the air can get to the windshield!!
see to many trucks with a filling cabinets worth of crap on the dash.
yes, the air in the truck does get dehumidified and warm,running that way, but it's unsafe and illegal in many states.

Then there is Shicago snow where it's freaking slush .

Holy cow.

Bring 4 gallons of wiper fluid and run that defrost. Plan of stopping to clean the blades off when it's safe

 

Heat your washer fluid. That will solve many problems.
