Sorry to hear about your situation with Roehl. I too just left Roehl to work for a local trucking company that will get me the miles and work to actually make a living.
-
thought better of it,will think harder, all the big companies seem to be about the same right now, just some have nicer and newer gear

1600 miles a week pays more than I could make in 40 hours at a regular job where I'm from.
-
Well the first 2 years trucking i made enough to get by.They run u for u to learn, when u get 2 years and show u are exp. the checks and miles grow.. so u are not going to make 1000 dollar checks the first two years...

Gunville trucking, what should I do now?
I graduated from truck driving school last month. I had several offers but I decided to go with a smaller outfit in niagara wi. When I talked to the recruiter on the phone he said it would be $350 wk in training pay and .34cpm after training.
I did the interview, went through orientation.I was then handed a piece of paper that said I am not being paid during training and the pay rate is 27 cpm.
Then they handed me a contract that said if they finish training me that I must stay a year or pay them 3000 dollars. I refused to sign and they said I could continue to train.
I have been train for a while now and they have tried to get me to sign a couple of times. A few otr drivers have told me that is their scam the sign 15 new drivers and only hire 5 drivers. So ten drivers owe them $3000 a month.
Then I got on the road this week for the first time on friday, been doing local spotter training. First off they hand us a load that is already late. The dispatcher then switched our load that had a 3pm delivery in hartford wi and it was already 11:30 am, this is a 3 1/2 hr trip. anyway we left we got about 2 hr. in and the dispatcher called. She wanted me to drive to MN after our delivery. Not a big deal except that it would have been a 14 hr drive for me and my trainer has a broken leg so he cannot drive. We did not have any clothes because this was a down and back trip. not to mention the trainer had been fired two weeks before because his truck was disgusting and has a thing for Porn. The truck was so bad the matress was thrown out and the truck was pressure washed INSIDE THE CAB.
The dispatcher then called to gave us our saturday load that delivered at 5pm. So we make our delivery head back to the shop. When we get there the trainer checked his mailbox for the paperwork on saturday's load. The dispatcher can't tell the difference between 0500 and 1700cst. I was to tired to drive much more so we called the boss he said deliver it when we can. the next morning we leave to pick up the load and another driver was there he had arrived at the shop to pick up his paperwork and discovered his 0500 appt. was actually at 1700.
What should I do now?

I started with roehl about 3 weeks ago. first week I was with a mentor because i only had 57,000 miles. At first I thought I made a mistake after sitting @ellenwood for 2 days waiting for any load. But since that time I have run my ___ off. 3500 miles last week. sitting in indy on a reset now. but I don't think I made a mistake anymore.

I kept my mouth shut, did my job, made all deliveries on time and still only averaged 1600 miles for the last 2 months.

Its more along the line of 3 trucks to run that 4000 miles. I would still be there if I could have run 2000 miles a week. The only time that happened was my first week to make roehl look good and the last week when I was going home to unpack my truck.

you can try gunville we need drivers. the pay is low but they make it up with miles. they expect hard work.
I have had one bad week since coming back i had 1800 miles, left on sunday at noon Home on tuesday at 4pm. the dispatcher called said they couldn't find loads worth taking, he said dh from chicago home.
They won't leave you sitting to long they have front hual loads of paper out of quinnessec and escanaba mi paper mills that need to move and pay well enough to come back mt if needed, most of our loads are 500 miles or less.
then back huals are usually reinhart foods in shawano or marquette mi and supervalue in GB.
The trucks are old, but well maintained. My first truck had 1.4 million miles on it but it was solid and did 74 mph. They do have some 05 volvos but you wont see those unless you can make 3800 miles consistently or stay with them for a few years.

I worked for Roehl for 2 months also. They treat you really good, even if you start cussing because of lack of miles. I just couldn't feed my family on the 1500 miles a week that they were giving drivers at that time. Man i wish it would have worked out at roehl.

They hire students.I just left gunville this week. its not bad if you like low pay and 20 hr days. Hr/safety guy can be a jerk unless you kiss his backside. He told me that i should run out of fuel instead of buying fuel on the road. they will want you to sign a 1yr contract.
The owners son is the dispatcher right now because they cant find anyone willing to put up with the rest of the staff. thing is he is the best dispatcher i had but he always fills in while they search for a new one.
Oh yeah the equipment is old. they operate on the fix it only if it falls of philosophy. not to mention they are volvos so the electrical system burns everything you plug in up.
they will tell you they pay pcmiler practical miles but if they mistakenly give you their pay sheet it says pcmiler shortest miles. good luck getting paid for unloading trailers and extra stops. you may get paid for every other one. there are a lot of 3 and 4 stop pick ups in chicago. then there are the overweight loads of paper. they will put 47000lbs in a reefer, 48000lbs in a 53ft dry van then dispatch a drop and hook after hrs so you cant get a roll off the trailer. they will have you dodge the scale but complain about out of route miles and not pay you for the additional miles.
On the plus side they can get you good miles, but like i said 16-40 hr stretches of work. then sit for a day to rest. I just decided this week that i'm not going to prison for this company. I like money but i love my family more. I found a good local job. it doesn't pay as well but it is good to be home, driving my wife nuts! not used to having so much down time.
I'm just sayin'.................................
spinpsychle Thanks this. -
I start orientation on monday 11/09/2009 in Marshfield Wi. I am looking forward to it but been hearing lots about this heart rate test they have does anyone know anything about it?
