I took a trip to the Phoenix Arizona Volvo dealership a couple days ago and was shocked to find none of their trucks had a rack to hang snow chains. Every truck I have ever driven, mostly freightliners and T680s have had a rack behind the passenger side fuel tank mounted on the frame rail for hanging chains. When I asked the sales guy about it he acted like he had never fielded that that question before. For all of you who drive Volvos what is your solution? I really did like the new 860 but I have to have chains. He suggested putting a box on the catwalk to hold them which I would rather not trip over every time I need to hang placards.

I'd imagine any dealership around the Phoenix area, chains wouldn't be high priority. That being said, you'll usually find that a fair amount of guy's are slingin' their iron on the mudflap hangers.

Omg midnight, go to that place in Iowa, get a chain rack and have them put it on.

Iowa is a large area. I am assuming you are referring to the Iowa 80 truck stop. I know it can’t be done there’s a Volvo parked next to me and I just spent two hours talking to him. He has a box on the catwalk where he stores his chains. There is also a space behind the fairings between the DEF tank and the fuel tank where you could put chains but it would be a ##### to get access to that. It just blew my mind they don’t have a chain rack from the factory. Every truck I’ve ever driven has had a chain rack.

Just because it has a rack dose t mean it came from the factory. I've ersonly never driven a truck with a chain rack. They make a tool box that sits in between the frame rails in the cat walk.

Inside. The compartment on the passenger side. It may not be very elegant, but during the chain season, I can cram 8+1 chains in there. I place them on a thick cardboard. I even prefer it that way, as I seldom chain up, and hanging chains get rusty and messy.

That’s an option. Are they legal everywhere? I heard they weren’t in some states.

    I would Google it.

    You chain up often?
