1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I've been mostly lurking here until my eyes are practically bleeding and today attended a 3-1/2 hr. seminar at the local State College.

    Here are the highlights:
I can probably qualify for a Govt. GRANT to cover the tuition.
They offer 100 hrs. of classroom training and 60 hrs. of 1-on-1 driving time at which time you recieve your certificate.
This is followed by 160 hrs. of OJT which gives you a 320 hr. certificate issued by the College.
The Head Instructor covered many of the subjects that I've read about here and really stressed "paying your dues" to enter into the business including the first 6 mos. as likely to be H*ll and the next 6 not to be much better.
They also provide drivers for a local co. that should be a shoe-in for me as I have known the owners for years.

The downside is that Sage is the provider for the program and they don't seem to have a very good rep. here.

    What are your thoughts?

Did I post this on the wrong forum or is it just not worthy of a reply?

It may take a bit of time for someone with experience with that outfit to respond. Not all of our members can get on here every day.

Hold yer water their Teetorbilt! Patience is probably the one thing above all others you must learn if you want to be a driver!:yes2557:

I don't know anything about Sage, but from what you have posted, it looks like it might be a good program. The fact that the recruiter is telling you about the first year of "hell" is something I like. It means he is not sugar coating the job.

And the fact that you may have an "in" with a local company is probably a good idea. Just be mindful of how slow freight is right now. It MAY pick up by the time you are ready to go to work but frankly I would be surprised if it comes back that quickly. It will come back, eventually. I hope.:biggrin_25511:

    Good luck.

went to sage in san antonio, was a good school....non of that switching watch other people drive crap....if you got in a truck it was cause you were driving it....i did well and they had us prepped well for the drive test....some schools apparently make you sit and watch someone else drive and call it 'observation time' then count it toward your hours behind the wheel or some junk. It should be called 'knock out a bunch of students hours all at once and keep their tuition time' Everyhour on my school paper thing was spent with me and only me driving and with me and the trainer only in the truck....school was ran well.
