this has always been standard procedure for me if i've been parked in a public place overnight you just don't know what kind of lunatics are out there, the worst i had was someone let down two of my inside rear tires on the trailer.

Get an air release one. Let the douche bag pull against that piston, and leave part of his shoulder laying next to your drives.

Just another example of why you can't turn your back on dog people. Cats rule.

Actually I did catch it, sorta....the right side of the trailer landed on my driver-side drive axle. So probably softened the blow to the driver side landing gear leg, and kept the passenger side leg about a foot and a half off the ground. Scary as he'l hearing the load groaning while tilted directly at me as I cranked the landing gear down....

As someone who has dropped a trailer between twice and "none of your business" times, a tug test is not reliable. Look at the handle and/or look to see if jaws are closed around kingpin. There is even a combination of events that will cause the jaws to look closed but not hold once you pull against them. A tug test is PART of verifying 5th wheel is locked. At a minimum, look at your handle every time you return to truck.

If jaws wont stay locked around kingpin, pull and hold handle their full travel for several seconds and then release it. That will fix them. No need to try and pry them open to reset them.

When I drove for covenant in the late 90s we had several X employees that were pulling pins and dispatch actually was telling all drivers to double check connection before moving if you were away from the rig for any amount of time

So this thread answers one of my questions in another thread about if it is someone mucking about,
or it's an accident that happens on its own. Back in the 60's we had "Blanket Parties" for anything like
this type of abhorrent behavior. In a week or two their black eyes and bruised ribs were good enough
to be seen in public again, and magically they were a changed person.
The Old Guy used to say, "They should be beat with a board; and when they come to, beat 'em again!"
