60 watt carrier seems high, if the amp peps to 80 to 100 watts than carrier out if amp should be 20 to 25 watts.

I really don't know what the "pep" or "swing" values are, since my Workman only provides the dead key readings as I noted earlier. RM Italy rates the KL 203 at a maximum 100 watts AM and 200 watts SSB. Are these pep values? I don't know.

The amp is rated for 12 - 14 VDC. It draws a maximum of 10 amps and is fused for 12 amps.

As noted, the Workman meter records a value of 60 watts output deadkey with the amplifier "on," and 1.5 watts deadkey with the amplifier "off," all at 13.2 volts feed power.

100 watts Am and 200 watts ssb are pep specs and for 100% modulation carrier to pep should be 1:4 .

If you visit Cbradiomagazine.com there is a good review on the KL- 203.

You will find that “you get what you pay for” is especially true when it comes to swr/pwr meters. Your cheap Workman meter probably is in the ballpark as far as your swr’s are concerned. But I bet it’s way off as far as your continuous rf power (dead key) is concerned. Even the industry standard Bird 43 meters are off by 5%. Try not to get too hung up on the pep power, it’s more or less a sales gimmick to sell amps and radios.

Its like a palomar 225 with 2× 1446 , your real peak output is going to be around 150 watts but most are led to believe they will get 225.
