WOW sorry to hear this! Just wait till you get a bill. Even though its under warranty they will most likely make some excuse to try to bill you.

Warranty is almost up so I'll probably just do the complete rebuild. That way it will put me back to the 4 year 400,000. And I will save on the labor, since it will be apart anyway..

Go to neutral rolling down the road. Does it still vibrate?

Talk to them first. Make sure they are gonna cover the crank at no cost to you. Then talk about a complete in-frame. See what kind of deal they will give you, if any.

But I do have to ask, with less that 600k on it why would you even worry about it? Think of it this way if they aren't gonna take the block out and have everything checked (I'd try to push them to take it out on there dollar), ask them if they will cover any other damages that may come of this crank issue?

The engine will be out on the floor for the crank repair, there should be no problem covering the crank under warranty. Make sure you push to get the block line bored. Have you bumped a loading dock in gear before this vibration started? If the crank is broken in the front, driveline shock would be suspected, if the crank has failed in the rear, high hp would be suspected cause of failure. Now saying that, Cat can not prove customer fault, so do not worry.

A friend of mine also broke the crank in his, and they just put in a new shortblock. He was also just about out of warranty, with in 10,000 miles, And he had $1,600 out of pocket. Had the head done, and I can't remember what all they did..

His vibration was only under torque so therfore putting it in neutral the vibration would go away.

    I think thats why I asked you the question I did....I can't remember.:biggrin_2552:
