Down in San Francisco, we do it hourly. So my buddy would get paid $69 per hour. He'll do about $276 per day. His expense is about $140 per day. He nets about $136 a day. He works 6 days a week. He makes $816 net in those six days. He runs about 7 hours per day. He sleeps home every day. I am talking about dump truck. The contracts are brokerage. However, the location is the same day by day. It's a cool job, but it won't make you rich. Call your local dirt broker.

Now this is what you'd call "Dirt cheap'HalpinUout, Derailed, nightgunner and 3 others Thank this.

How much net do you expect per year? $3916 net is dirt cheap how much is normal?
-
Is it really that bad? Ouch. Back when I was fixing computers we would charge between $70 and $125 an hour just to fix computers. And this didn't need any $100k worth of equipment.

Talk about let’s get real. We is gonna make us a killin hauling dirt!
Letsgetreal Thanks this. -
You can make that here driving for someone else.
We all have different expectations and goals. If working 6 days a week for $40k is satisfactory for you,.. then more power to you. I can go run equipment 5 days a week right now for more than that and not have any of the complications or responsibility that owning a truck involves. I personally have more ambition than that. I like owning property and a home as well as having nice things, taking time off and vacations. Living week to week does not appeal to me.
Netting $40k annually is in my opinion one break down away from bankruptcy. I've personally gone through $40k in less than 3 months covering some emergency expenses. Almost broke me. Learned a valuable lesson.

In California, the rates are the culprits. There are so many people living in one home here that they can afford to take these cheap rates. For example, Mike, David, and Jose bought a six-bedroom home for $450,000 in Delhi, CA. They're going to pitch in the mortgage and take cheap freight.

In Ca. Hrly dirt was $85/hr to the truck, but that was about 14 yrs ago, I'm sure it's over a $100 now. Also consider this, time starts under the loader and ends the same.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
65 bucks an hour to the truck before any expenses Maybe?

Everything is more expensive in California but trucks out my way can't get more than $65 an hour hauling dirt with a tri-axle even today
