We never haul machinery so I do not Carry shackles. Kubota told me where to chain. So I did what they said it's their product. I delivered safely so that's all that matters.

    Logan76 Thanks this.

You'd be surprised where shackles would come in handy, such as encountering a hole that not big enough for a chain but will accept a shackle screw.

sawmill, Logan76 and TakinItEasy Thank this.

Yea I've had to take my chain hooks off before by pulling the cotter pins to chain a ac unit.

Johndeer4020 I understand your concerns and I learned from the load and will definitely secure differently next time

ZVar and MACK E-6 Thank this.

Wouldn't have to do that with shackles. ;)

Just put the chain through it while you have the screw out.

One place I remember using them was in the middle of Volvo off road dump trucks near the articulation point.

    Logan76 Thanks this.

I use straps on machinery, usually over buckets but I always put felt under them and rubber under my chains, that's brand new stuff and if my Kubota was missing paint I would be upset.

    Live an learn man...

I always keep a bunch of shackles because the casks we haul require them but it never hurts to have some wooden wedges you can nail down under tires too.

Used to haul small equipment trailers and I always liked to nail some wedges under the tires.

You can never be over prepared when it comes to flatbeds.

sawmill, PeteyFixAll, SAR and 2 others Thank this.

Stopped here at the loves in Palestine Arkansas, as I'm on my 30, in drives this red Pete with 3 slotted coils loaded suicide and not one hogtie chain across the top. In my opinion it's an accident waiting to happen.

This is also why I tend to shy away from asking anyone else for securement ideas.

MACK E-6, G13Tomcat, Zeviander and 3 others Thank this.
