i am also looking into refresher. I think I have had enough carpentry. I was just laid off and I don't see things getting better for, well, awhile! i only drove for two yrs and it has been 14 yrs since i drove. May be too long for refresher for me, not sure. May have to do the whole deal.
You know what they say," Misery loves company".
Good luck to all the ex- construction guys. Just be careful with your choices of schools and companies. i did J.B. Hunt before, nuff said.
any ex construction workers here?

Hey magnum
If you still have your CDL's you should be good to go with a refresher. One guy up at the school I was in had come off the road in 85. He let his cdl's go so He had to start over. He did say that if he still had them all he would have to do is a refresher.
Hope this helps, becareful out there -
I think I developed a phobia about commercial jobsites. Just the thought of getting stuck on one of those things makes me want to get back in the truck as soon as possible. For some reason I have the opposite reaction to residential. The smell of cedar shingles brings back good memories.
I don't think there's much of a comparison between trucking and construction, though I do make more money trucking. -
Not to mention we get an office with a view....

Right Right, office with a view. god Iv'e missed trucking. I spent so much time driving at night, can't find anything during the day.......lol

My son-in-law and I started our own contracting business in Virginia about a year and a half ago and we're now a Class A contractor. We primarily do residential remodeling, but like everything else, that has dried up to virtually nothing. Homeowners either have the money but are scared to spend it, or they don't have it and can't borrow it. I'm starting school to get my CDL next week. My son-in-law is going to try and keep the company going, but it's gonna be a long time until the market fully recovers.
