The rail industries grievance might not be 100% true if memory serves me? If I'm not mistaken I seem to remember learning in high school that the government basically gave land to the railroads to help fuel their 19 century westward expansion. I suppose that would only apply to the western 2/3 of the country? I also remember reading somewhere that the early (19th century) rail industry was boom and bust, kind of like the dot coms of the late 90's- early 2000's.

The western railroads did much better. It was the eastern railroads that had all the trouble.

There were successful air freight companies at that time. Airborn Express and BAX Global were successful air freight only companies.
CF Airfreight it's self was okay it wasn't until they bought out Emery Worldwide and merged CF Airfreight into Emery that they started to get into trouble.Mike_77 Thanks this. -
I pulled this old girl last night. As you can see it still has the license plate from its CF days. For those not familiar CF had a few different ways of doing things like:
-Pintle ram built into tongue
-Wedge brakes instead of s-cam. My company has replaced the wedge brakes with s-cams on this one so no pictures.
- Spare tire counter balance. -
Mike, do you plan on doing a series about PIE?
-
Yes I'll do a serries on anything.
We're doing a real short serries on Cannon Expess next and then I order the book about Conway. So will pick up with Conway where CF left off. -
That's cool as it gets. GFS doesn't use any ones old anything infact I saw a brand new 2017 converter dolly in my yard today.
The book doesn't talk at all about who was in charge of mechanical operations at CF. -
I posted those c.f. pics on fallen flags last night and the dam fone has been blowing up since !
Was nice to see the response but I gotta get some sleep lol ....shutting fone off . -
My company use to have an old Transcon trailer with the logo still in place, unfortunately I never took a picture and it's long gone. I'm at our hub and I found a old CF dolly that still has the wedge brakes .Last edited: Nov 30, 2017
