Do you have full fenders? Light bars on the back? Don’t forget there is a trailer frame to contend with. 36 in my opinion is to deep. I had full fenders and a light bars on the back of a truck and did not have clearance with a 24.

    18".

    I have a 24" and wish I had an 18".

Although with a 300 truck a 24 may be ok?

    18 inches.

You might be going off road and need that flex room with the tractor frame.

The kingpin is one of the most boss strongest parts on a tractor trailer its good that it's not too far back.

Less is better. That gives you more room to slide your fifth wheel up should you need to.
