I don't like them in the winter. They break traction.:biggrin_2551:

    jedi_tev Thanks this.

My anti lock brakes give me fits, but I find the SS's fantastic in the snow and especially icy conditions. I will keep mine.

Your ABS should work no matter what tire you're running. However, if you have to switch trialers all the time I know there's problems.

Had 'em on my first company truck, and loved them, especially for getting in and out of sandy or muddy jobsites. We had them on the tractor only, except for a rare few trailers. Flats could be a problem, if you're in a situation that one goes soft and you can't get off the road quickly, as it's really hard on those expensive rims.

I prefer a good aggressive tread and duals in the winter, but I have not experienced super singles in snow yet so it could just be what I'm used to.

thats funny how we've all had such different experiences with them....i didnt have any problems on snow and ice....i remember my first rooking out in winter with no experience and going thru an snow/ice storm in st louis....other trucks couldnt get up a big hill....i went on up no sweat. got to the cons.....was bad enuff they didnt think i was coming (shoulda said, 'no im a dumb rookie')....went on back to terminal....only, if i was to give em a bad rating....it'd be on mud or sand....where one other guys thougt they were good....well they can't be all bad if we all can't agree about what their bad at, i guess.

As much as super singles look very appealing for their benifits, I could never see them justified in an off-road truck due to exactly what all you guys have said. When you get a flat you are screwed and the places that I would get a flat are most times 250+ miles away from the closest tire shop. Granted the fact that I have had only 2 drive tire flats in 1 year both have them have been out in the bush.

Now if I was running on highway and down south where tire shops are abundant I would deffinatly take a serious look at them. I guess a question I have for the guys that run em are what is it like putting on a set of tire chains for the super singles?? Are the chauns heavier than a set of triples, also can you get them tight enough to run 35 mph or more?

A narrow tire will cut through snow better than a wide tire. A wide tire will bog down. On ice I can feel the super single breaking traction more than the duals. When there is ice and snow on top they break more than duals.
