They have segregation charts that make it easy and safe to haul some HazMat with other freight.

So sue me, I'm old, but I remember something like that with a dynamite truck, on fire, in the 60's??
I think, and you can Google it, (should be pix,) The driver had a brake fire
on tractor trailer full of dynamite,
in Marshalls Creek, Pa. and pulled over. after it EXPLODED - and killed first responders,
massive big crater, took out half the little town, and destroyed a truck like I never saw,
    fromGenDisasters.com:
ALBERT KODA, 51, of Port Carbon, Pa., driver of the truck, told state police he was driving along Route 209 when his two right tires blew. He said he pulled off the road and parked alongside a parking lot in front of the reptile farm.
KODA was quoted by State Police Lt. Albert Wada as saying he unhitched the tractor and then fell asleep. When he woke up he went for help. Wada said KODA told him when he left there was no fire.

You tube:Raw video: Marshalls Creek blast of 1964 aftermath
Check the snakes/alligators - and look at the end at the deformed steel wheel on
    the two crushed fire engines.

You leave a placard load unattended in an unsecured area; to quote Sherriff Buford T. " We gonna bar-b-que your ### in molasses".
And that might be getting off easy.

Of course you can...but don’t be alarmed if your rig gets towed off.

Just for fun I called the manager of our local Wal-Mart and asked him about parking haz-mat and leaving the truck unattended.
His reply was most definite...NO. Attended, unattended, he didn't care. No parking.

    Wow.

Falls asleep with a load of dynamite next to a reptile farm AFTER thinking it's serious enough to unhook from the trailer!!!???

I didn't know they had window lickin' steering wheel holders back in the day.

Explosive and Radioactive loads have different rules. For example, the rules for 30 min breaks are different because you can never leave them unattended.
