The only way a 1099 legit is when the employer or contractor has control over what you do.
You would have to have complete say so over all aspects of the position as though you are an owner operator. Its not legitimate when there is a clear employer employee relationship.

I run team with the wife, and we run a very relaxed dedicated route. 4300 miles, home 2 days a week, 8 hour pit stop at the house midweek. Around $1500 before taxes every week each. We could make more like $2,000 each running 6,000+ miles per week doing linehaul, or even otr here. Probably more at specialized carriers.

$1000 just isn't enough for a team driver. I can easily clear that solo at a mega and not deal with the headache of a teammate.

 

$1000 a week is peanuts for an experienced solo driver let alone a team driver.
You got to pay the big bucks to get someone to team with you.
