Funny my wife asked me if I can even drive twins but I told her if i can drive one how hard can it be to drive two lol ... however I’m more concerned with tightening up the loose aux shifter ... when it’s in 4th it flops back to almost neutral position (see video)

Don’t know if it was the start or the leaky exhaust making my head spin but I was on a high today I’ll tell you that

One thing that I can almost guarantee is going to happen is that you will get the aux trans hung up going from under to direct (2nd to 3rd). As you have probably noticed, there should be two rods going from the shifter to the brownie. These rods should each connect to small clevises that are attached to rods that go through the top cover of the transmission. When in neutral, the clevises should be even with each other, and depending on which gear you are in, one or the other will be further in toward the cover of the transmission. If you get it hung up don't panic or get too concerned. It will still be in gear, but you won't be able to shift. It helps to carry a very large screwdriver, or small pry bar with you. Just pull over, climb under and pry the clevises so that they are even with one another. It doesn't take much force to do this, and after you do it once it will only take a minute pop it free the next time as you will know exactly what to do.
I don't think I can describe to you what happens in the top of the transmission, but basically there is a pin of sorts that fits into a notch on one or the other of two rods, depending on which gear you are in. When you round the shift pattern the pin can get stuck in between the rod and housing as opposed to fitting in the notch. It's no big deal, and nothing is damaged.
Maybe one of the other folks can explain this a bit better. I still remember the first time it happened to me. I had the top of the brownie off trying to figure out what had happened, and I am trying to remember so as to be able to explain it. This would have been in 1980! -
This thread is the best one on the whole forum, for a whole lot of us tired old men. We enjoy living in the past, keep the short videos coming and thanks for sharing with us.
spyder7723, Heavyd, wore out and 3 others Thank this. -
Don't forget us women! I started in a truck like that same tranny!

Don't drive it much until you go over the air system completely, esp the primary brake lines. As I said earlier, on mine the main brake line to the drives was barely hanging on. One good jolt and it broke completely in 2. Old rubber cracks and the steel in the lines rusts away leaving nothing to carry the 100 or so psi of pressure. Been there, done that.
JohnHeavyd, 359twinsticks and NightWind Thank this. -
Will do ... thanks for the tip
